Welcome back to Term 4! I hope you had some time over the past two weeks to take a break from the routine of school and work.
If you have visited our school this week, you will notice our Year 5 and Year 6 classrooms are well underway and on target for the commencement of the 2020 school year.
In our ‘Prep Precinct’, shade has been installed over the playground and work was commenced on the prep climbing wall.

Thank you to our ground staff, Greg and Matt and our Assistant Principal, Paul Martin for attending to maintenance issues which continue to improve our grounds for the students.
Given the impact of the flood, our ‘Fifty Years Committee’ looked for low cost activities to celebrate this significant event such as our amazing Holy Spirit Under the Stars night of entertainment.
It was decided that rather than hold our annual 10 000 Steps fundraiser, we would celebrate Term 4 with a Colour Me Crazy event this Sunday.
The celebration will commence with 8.30 am mass, with the Colour Me Crazy run to follow. The run will be held on the back oval in two sessions. Session 1 is at 10 am and Session 2 at 10.30 am on our oval. This is a family event and all students must be accompanied by an adult.
It was wonderful to see enthusiastic children ready to start Term 4. I hope to see you on Sunday.
God bless
Geraldine
Welcome back to Term 4 and what a busy term it will be.
We will kick off the term with the first Holy Spirit Catholic School
'Colour Me Crazy' Fun Run on Sunday 13th.
Our Parish Mass commences at 8:30am with families invited to join us on the back oval for the Colour Me Crazy Run from 10am. The run is a fun obstacle course, complete with colour and water hazards. Families are invited to wear old clothes (you might like to pack a towel for the trip home). All participants must wear eye protection. Colourful sunglasses are available at the office for $3.
The cost is $2 per person or $5 per family. The Holy Spirit CAFE group will host a sausage sizzle, and other sweet treats available for purchase. The Run commences at 10am from the Gazebo on the back oval and will conclude in front of the OSHC Building.
Before and After School Supervision
At times we do have visitors in our school grounds and student safety is our primary concern. Just a reminder to parents that supervision of students commences at 8am each morning. At the end of the day, students are supervised in the Hall, at the Church or at the Gazebo on Albert Street until 3:10pm. Your assistance with this is appreciated.
to Year 6 teacher Allyson Buchanan who has been appointed Principal of St Francis Catholic School, Hughenden in 2020. We wish Allyson all the best in her new role.
One of our 50 Years projects will be to place memorial pavers towards the entrance of the school. Order forms are attached to the newsletter or available from the office.

Triple P - Positive Parenting Program
TOUGH TIMES? MAKE TIME TO TALK
New research published in US journal Pediatrics says that even kids having difficulties at home are more likely to care about schoolwork and homework if they have a sympathetic, caring parent. Children who had some type of difficulty at home were also only half as likely to need to repeat a grade when they had at least one adult they could really talk to.
Caring adults can make all the difference to how children cope with less-than-ideal circumstances at home, whether financial or personal issues are at play. To get tips and strategies on helping kids through tough times, you can do Triple P Online, or face-to-face – and right now, it’s free in Queensland! For more information, go to: www.triplep-parenting.net
Plenary Council 2020
The Plenary Council invites people to continue to participate in the journey towards the Council sessions in 2020 and 2021. The “Listening and Discernment” phase recently opened, and a guide has been developed to encourage groups to take part in communal discernment on the National Themes for Discernment. Learn more about the Christian practice of discernment and download the guide, “Let’s Listen and Discern”, at www.plenarycouncil.catholic.org.au
Ordination of Emene Kelemete
Bishop Tim Harris would like to invite you to attend the Ordination to the Priesthood of Deacon Emene Kelemete on Thursday 31st of October from 7pm. The Ordination will take place at the Edmund Rice Hall at Ignatius Park College, Ross River Road. There is ample parking in the Holy Spirit Parish Car Park, Ignatius Park College car park and on Ross River Road and Albert Street. There will be light refreshments afterwards. All are welcome to attend.
Understanding the Rite of Ordination
Anointing of the Hands: After the investiture, the newly ordained priest kneels before the Bishop who anoints his hands with Sacred Chrism. In the baptismal rite, the newly baptised is anointed on the forehead as a sign of being united with Jesus, priest, prophet, and king. In Confirmation, the confirmand is anointed on the forehead as a ‘sealing with the Holy Spirit.’ Sacred Chrism is also used to anoint the walls and altar during the Dedication of a Church and Altar. In the Ordination of a Bishop, he is anointed on the head as a sign of his distinctive sharing in the headship of Christ over the Church. Priests are anointed on their hands as a sign of their distinctive sharing in Christ’s Priesthood by which they offer the sacrifice of the Mass.
Extra Ordinary Month of Mission
Next weekend our Parish will be holding the annual Catholic Mission Church Appeal. This year we are invited to partner with the Church in Ghana, as they provide ongoing protection and development of children who are vulnerable.
In line with traditional beliefs, in parts of Ghana, children born with a disability, or whose mother passes during childbirth, are considered to be ‘spiritchildren’, and thus at risk of being harmed or killed. The Church in Ghana is dedicated to protecting these children and educating families to ensure every child has a chance to live a full life. Next week you will learn more about Sister Stan and the Nazareth Home for God’s Children, which is leading these efforts in the diocese of Yendi.
You will be offered the opportunity to personally partner with the Church in Ghana as a monthly giving partner, with all gifts specifically directed to life-saving projects for children in need – please come prepared to give generously.
