On Friday evening our students and a group of staff members participated in our annual St Vincent de Paul Sleep Out.
Our Mini Vinnies entered into a simulated experience of ‘homelessness’ and donated bedding for those in need.
The students entered into the spirit of the evening. It had a dual purpose of developing an appreciation of what we have while working towards changing attitudes and growing a more compassionate heart like Jesus.
I was impressed with the way students met a variety of challenges and their poignant responses when discussing and praying for the homeless.
Bouquets to Mary McAuliffe, from St Vincent de Paul, Fr. John, and our staff members who made this event possible- a great commitment on a Friday evening!
All donations are still welcomed, the only request is that pillows are not second hand.
God bless

What an exciting start we have had to term 4. We celebrated mass with the parish on October 13th, followed by our first ever "Colour Me Crazy". What a fantastic way to celebrate our 50 years as a school. A huge thank you to the many volunteers from staff and families for making sure this event flowed. You are truly appreciated. The money raised on the day will go St Joseph's in Stanthorpe to assist in their recovery from recent bushfires.
A special mention must go to our Black River Rural Fire Brigade for their assistance on the day. Jamie and his crew were involved in fighting the fires in this area and were thankful to our community for their generosity.
On the last day of term 3, Holy Spirit competed in the Blackhawks Challenge held at Brothers Leagues Club. A GREAT DAY! Thank you to the many families that cheered and supported our players throughout the day. We had some wins and losses but showed true Holy Spirit grit right to the end. We even had Blackhawks player, Kalifa Fai Fai Loa run water for the team for the day. Also a special mention to Fraser for his assistance. Bring on 2020. A few future stars in the making
Holy Spirit continues to spread the recycling message to our school community. How good are we I hear you ask?
This is an extraordinary effort in the short time we have been collecting containers. If you would like to donate your containers, please drop them in or use the code : C10187531 at the recycling station.
Currently, our bore is not operational and our back oval is feeling the effects. A new bore has been drilled and repair work to the water lines needs to be done....hopefully very soon. A huge congratulations to our grounds staff for keeping the remaining part of our school looking amazing.
Happy Days
Paul
In this week’s Gospel reading, there was a judge who was often unjust and unfair who was asked by a widow to help her settle a quarrel with her neighbour. The judge was not interested and each time she came sent her away. But the woman kept pestering the judge, determined that he would hear her request, listen carefully to what she wanted and help her resolve the quarrel. Often when students are angry, they find it difficult to resolve their quarrels peacefully. An important strategy at Holy Spirit, is to bring the students together to listen to each other and talk through their differences and resolve the matter to the satisfaction of everyone.
This week at Holy Spirit we value reliability. Reliability is the quality of being trustworthy and being consistently good. The benefits of being reliable are that people trust you and feel they can count on you. People inherently value reliability. Every day we place enormous value on things such as reliable internet connectivity, mobile phone service, planes taking off on time, our cars getting us from A to B and our family, friends and family doing what they say they will do. When these things are reliable, they not only afford us greater efficiency and peace of mind but also help us forge stronger relationships and deliver greater results. This week we pray that our students at Holy Spirit be reliable people who can be counted on and trusted.
Next Friday our Mini Fete will be held. In the month of October, we as a Catholic Church in Australia focus on supporting missions throughout the world. In our school community we will raise funds to support the Missions with our MINI FETE. Children are encouraged to bring a small amount of money to participate, have fun and support the Missions. Class teachers are organising stalls. If you are able to assist, contact your child’s teachers.
Well done to our Year 6 students who participated in the Vinnies Sleepout on Friday night. Thank you to all our families who made a donation of linen, towels or pillows that will go to people in need in our community. The students participated in a number of activities that raised awareness on the plight of the homeless.

God bless.

Thank You Liturgy
An invitation is extended to all who assist in our school. There will be a Thank You Liturgy followed by morning tea at 8.45 am, Wednesday 6th November.
This Friday we celebrate World Teachers' Day. World Teachers' Day recognises the contribution educators make to the world.
On Monday our teachers spent the day reflecting on the Learning and Teaching Cycle. Their engagement and professionalism was indeed admirable. As society continues to change, our teachers are required to continue to update their pedagogy (the science of teaching).
According to education specialists, Fisher and Frey, there are many processes that go on behind teaching, mostly they are invisible to students and parents.
Days such as last Monday, provide the opportunity for teachers to engage in professional dialogue to get these 'backend' processes right.
The theme for this year is "Young Teachers: The Future of the Profession". It is encouraging to see the contribution and dedication of our early career teachers - take a bow!

Northern School Sport 10 -11 years Aquathon Trials
On Monday our teachers spent time reflecting on current teaching practice. Part of the focus for the day was based on some professional reading which was the catalyst used to discuss the learning and teaching cycle.
We are fortunate that unlike other states, Queensland teachers complete six of the seven Pupil Free Days in their own time.
