- Our Mission Statement
Last Sunday was Pentecost Sunday. Pentecost occurs fifty days after Easter Sunday and is often referred to as the birthday of the Church. It is the time when the apostles, filled with the Holy Spirit, mustered their courage to go out and spread the 'good news' to others.
In our Religious Education Program, all students learn about the story of Pentecost and the gifts of the Holy Spirit: wisdom; courage; wonder and awe; self control, reverence; knowledge and understanding.
Each month students are selected for the Holy Spirit Award as a sign of recognition for demonstarting these gifts. It is always difficult for teachers to identify one child in their class who displays these qualities. On any given day, many students demonstrate some or all of the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
At this time of year, we usually celebrate our school and parish feast day. Like many events during Covid-19 this celebration will be a little different this year. Students will however, participate in class activities to recognise Holy Spirit Day.
Last week, our students were introduced to the McAuley Shield and awards such as the Holy Spirit Award and Student of the Week are just some of the ways students can earn points for this inter- house competition. House Captains have been given the task of suggesting rewards for the winning house.
With activities such as the Fun Run and Athletics Carnval postponed, the McAuley Shield provides a competition for students with a focus on positive behaviour. We look forward to the inaugural winners of the McAuley Shield.
God Bless

Drop off and pick up zones. Do you know that the Albert Street, drop off and pick up area is available? This area is the least popular with our families. So if you are looking for a quieter spot for drop off or to collect children, make your way to Albert Street.
In keeping with the Holy Spirit School Parent Code of Conduct, please exercise patience and show courtesy to other drivers when using our Kiss n Go zones.
The Spirit Way challenge is underway across our school. Students and staff (and families) can earn coloured tokens for their House to find the champion House and crown the McAuley Shield winner for Tem 2. Students earn tokens that match our 'Spirit Way'. These qualities are
S = safety
P = persistence
I = inclusion
R = respect
I = independence
T = try / taking risks
Ask your child about the Spirit slips and the Spirit Way. Good luck to all Houses.
Happy Days,
Paul Martin
“Trinity” means something made up of three. This Sunday we celebrate the Feast of the Trinity and give thanks for the three persons of God. God the Father created the world and everything in it. He loved us so much, He sent God the Son to show us how to live with goodness. God the Spirit empowers our hearts to live God’s word with courage and love. We also remind ourselves of the Holy Trinity each time we make the sign of the Cross before we pray. ‘In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit’…
This week at Holy Spirit, we value faithfulness. Faithfulness is highly regarded throughout the Bible. It is listed by Paul as a ‘fruit of the Spirit’ (Galatians 5:22). Jesus puts faithfulness alongside justice and mercy (Matthew 23:23). Mother Teresa said, ‘I do not pray for success. I ask for faithfulness.’ God’s faithfulness towards us gives us an example to follow in our own relationships. Faithfulness is something we should strive for in friendships and in our relationship with others and God. This week we pray that each one of us in our own way can share God’s words and faith with those around us.
On Friday, classes will celebrate Holy Spirit Day. Like many other activities that usually take place in our school, the pandemic has brought about changes in how we will celebrate this day. Classes will hold prayer as well as engage in an activity that will encourage students to learn and reflect on the gifts of the Holy Spirit and how they can use their gifts – for example, when things become difficult or challenging, whether it is in friendships or work, not to give up but keep trying until the situation is resolved or they achieve success.
God bless.

While restrictions have been eased across Queensland, many of the following practices were put into place in our school from mid-March this year. Consequently these and some additional practices will continue during this pandemic.
School wide
- Staff are reminded to maintain physical distance from other adults
- Three staff rooms have been created to allow staff to maintain physical distancing. Staff members have increased their duties after breaks to clean any high traffic areas during morning tea/lunch breaks.
- Cleaners attend to their usual tasks and areas which are high traffic areas.
- Staff members and students are required to stay at home if they have a temperature or any of the symptoms associated with Covid-19.
- The floor in the office foyer is clearly marked to indicate physical distance between visitors.
- Parents are reminded where possible to avoid entering the school grounds and classrooms.
Classroom
- Each classroom has been issued with disinfectant spray bottles and anti- bacterial wipes for use as required.
- Children presenting with any symptoms associated with Covid-19 are sent to the office for collection by a parent/carer.
- Cleaners continue to attend to classrooms with an emphasis on cleaning high traffic areas.
- Teachers educate students in the good hygiene practices of washing hands etc.
Eating Areas
- Only one year level is located in each eating area. Previously two year levels were located in each area.
- Seating has been spaced to ensure there is a physical distance between students.
- Teachers on duty remind students to maintain physical distancing.
Playground
- Playgrounds are washed down each day.
- Teachers on duty remind students to exercise physical distancing.
Individuals
- Teachers continue to educate students in good hygiene practices such as: sneezing or coughing into the elbow, regularly washing hands.
- Pocket sized bottles of sanitiser or soap for personal use have been distributed
Thank you to the parents and carers who continue to assist us by minimising their contact with staff and students. Please continue to be vigilant and I encourage you to remind your child to maintain good health practices.
According to Dr. Norman Swan, physician and medical journalist for the ABC, the three factors which contribute to pandemics are; environmental, biology and human behaviour. Collectively our behaviour is a key area in maintaining a healthy environment for the students, their families and staff members.

Upcoming Webinar for Parents
Understanding techno tantrums: 17 June 8-9pm AEST
Webinar Overview
In this digital era, chances are we’ve all experienced our children throwing a techno-tantrum. Technotantrums are completely normal and often a result of the neurobiological changes that occur when kids use technology. But this doesn’t mean that we have to simply accept that they’re part of our modern parenting reality. In this webinar Dr Kristy Goodwin helps parents and carers understand why children and teens emotionally combust when they digitally-disconnect, and how to establish new, healthy technology habits. Key learning and discussion points include:
• The science behind why kids and teens have techno tantrums and
find it challenging to switch off screens
• How to establish and enforce firm guidelines and boundaries
• How to be the pilot of the digital plane
• Researched based, realistic strategies to help develop healthy
digital behaviours so that screen time doesn’t end in ‘scream time’

Stroll the Strand
So who has cabin fever and needs a catch up? Let's meet at the Rock pool for a walk along the Strand followed by a cuppa or ice cream at Juliette's. In line with government regulations, we will need to limit numbers to 10 (this includes children) and ensure we practice safe social distancing. To ease back into things slowly, we will limit the length of this activity to an hour. Bring a picnic rug so that we can enjoy the sunshine and coffee on the grassed area behind Juliette's. If we have more than 10 RSVPs, we will run a number of sessions over a week.
Please RSVP for Thursday 11 June @ 10.00am and include your name, the number of adults and children you would like to register and a mobile phone number. As part of our COVID Safe Plan, we will need to take address details on the day. To attend this activity, you must register.
Note: If government restrictions change, this event may be postponed
