Principal's Corner

Principal's Photo 2018

Last Sunday was Pentecost Sunday.  Pentecost occurs fifty days after Easter Sunday and is often referred to as the birthday of the Church. It is the time when the apostles, filled with the Holy Spirit, mustered their courage to go out and spread the 'good news' to others.

In our Religious Education Program, all students learn about the story of Pentecost and the gifts of the Holy Spirit: wisdom; courage; wonder and awe; self control, reverence; knowledge and understanding.

Each month students are selected for the Holy Spirit Award as a sign of recognition for demonstarting these gifts. It is always difficult for teachers to identify one child in their class who displays these qualities. On any given day, many students demonstrate some or all of the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

At this time of year, we usually celebrate our school and parish feast day.  Like many events during Covid-19 this celebration will be a little different this year. Students will however, participate in class activities to recognise Holy Spirit Day.

Last week, our students were introduced to the McAuley Shield and awards such as the Holy Spirit Award and Student of the Week are just some of the ways students can earn points for this inter- house competition. House Captains have been given the task of suggesting rewards for the winning house.

With activities such as the Fun Run and Athletics Carnval postponed, the McAuley Shield provides a competition for students with a focus on positive behaviour. We look forward to the inaugural winners of the McAuley Shield.

God Bless
