What was in the mystery of the Holy Spirit Time Capsule? On Saturday afternoon, past student Rachael Briton and Mrs Fox, 6C teacher, surrounded by interested students opened the time capsule, a millennium project located near our flagpoles.
While the contents were a little moist, there was an array of items from the past. Do you remember the logo for the Sydney Olympic Games? The contents included a newspaper complete with the Olympic Games logo, a letter from Sr. Stephen (Principal 1974-1981), identity cards of students, three very small uniforms, a newsletter and some photos (unfortunately unsalvageable).
Our afternoon roll call included students and parents from the class of 1969. It was impressive to have Geoffrey Chaillon, Wayne Thompson and Donna Nugent (nee Ryan) attend the afternoon. Wayne has promised us a water tight container for the next time capsule!
Congratulations to our Holy Spirit Stars, who performed songs and dances from across the decades, didn't they shine on Saturday evening? We were also fortunate to have past students perform with Mr. Steven Frewn-Lloyd, our strings teacher.
Thank you to our music teachers, Mrs Sue Laing and Mrs Crimeen for preparing the students, to the instrumental teachers who not only prepared the students but participated in the band, Board Chair and parent, Fred Nucifora who was the MC, staff members who assisted on the night, our students who delighted the audience with their melodious voices and dance moves, and finally the parents who supported this event.
Events such as these highlight the Strength in the Spirit!
God bless

Yesterday Crystal & Brady from Star 106.3 visited our school. We had fantastic feedback from the radio station and the students were amazing. Students Emily & Charlize (Year 4), Ellie & Ashlee (Year 2), were our stars who competently read the weather report.
Year 3 students concluded the visit with their rendition of Mama Mia.

Happy Days
Paul Martin
In this week’s Gospel, Jesus tells the parable of the rich man who decided to build bigger and better barns because he had had a bountiful harvest and could not fit all the crops into his barns to be stored (Luke 12:13-21). If he had been a kind and generous man, he could have used the extra food to make life easier for those in need. This is a reminder to all that money and riches may not make us ‘rich’ in the eyes of God.
This week at Holy Spirit we value obedience. Obedience in simple terms, is the ability to comply with an order, request or rule. At times, students talk about the unfairness of incidents that have happened, of others not following the rules. It is sometimes difficult for students to be mindful of rules and try to abide by them. A resolution to ensure there is a fair outcome for all parties is sought, keeping in mind the rules that needed to be followed. We pray that our students pay attention to what is right, to what others have to say, therefore showing respect for others and understanding what is expected of them.
Tomorrow is the Feast day of St Mary of the Cross, Australia’s first saint, Mary MacKillop. Mary Helen MacKillop was born in Fitzroy, Melbourne on January 15, 1842. Together with Fr Tenison Woods, Mary founded the Congregation of the Sisters of St Joseph in 1867, an Order dedicated to the education of poor children. Mary faced many challenges. By 1891, there were three hundred sisters working in nine dioceses in Australia and New Zealand. An ordinary Australian woman, yet a woman of heroic holiness, goodness, warmth and determination, Mary died on August 8, 1909. On October 17, 2010 Mary MacKillop, Saint Mary of the Cross, was declared a Saint by Pope Benedict XVI. One of her best known sayings is ‘Never see a need without doing something about it!’
God bless.

Is your costume ready? Our annual Book Week Parade will be held on Wednesday 21st August. The theme this year is Reading is My Secret Power.
Well done to all our students on their wonderful performances on Saturday night as part of our 50 Years Celebration. Thank you to everyone who attended to help make the night a success!

Thank you to all those who came along on Saturday for our afternoon events. We were very lucky to have 3 original class members and parents from 1969 join us. The time capsule was opened to reveal items from the year 2000.

One of our 50 Years projects will be to place memorial pavers towards the entrance of the school. Order forms are attached to the newsletter or available from the office.
