As we come to the end of another term, once again there are many people in our school community who 'give life' to our school. To 'give life' is to contribute to our community in such a way that makes us want to belong.
Parent groups within our school community such as P & F and our Class and Community Contacts are also great sources of communication and generously give their time to inform parents of current and upcoming events. All community members are welcome to attend these meetings.
In the last 2 weeks, the Townsville Eisteddfod has been in full swing. Our choirs and bands, led by Sue and Maureen, have conquered the stage with many successes. It was our own Year 4 choir named Overall Champion. Our hats off to the many students challenging themselves in an area many adults fear – public performance. Our year 3 class performed this week with their poem and took out 2nd. Well Done 3D and Mr Wootton. Good luck to the remaining classes attending this week.
This week, we were informed that we had won the Indigenous Song Competition. The judges loved the involvement, enthusiasm, effort and creativity of our talented students. A huge thank you must also go to Kirsten, Tricia, Sue and Maureen for the planning, rehearsal and the technological skills to put it all together.
Bouquets to all who have 'given life' to our school this term. If you have worked in a classroom, helped in the tuckshop, accompanied students on an excursion, attended a meeting or positively promoted our school - thank you and God bless!
Have a restful holiday or perhaps just a break in routine from school lunches and homework!
Get in the Spirit

Friday 21st September, we will be having a coloured clothes day with a gold coin donation. Children can choose to come dressed as a farmer or free choice and all money raised from coloured clothes and P & F will be given to Drought Angels or Buy a Bale.
ABC Indigenous Language Song Competition
It is with great joy to announce that Holy Spirit Catholic School is one of the winners of the ABC Indigenous Language Song Competition! Congratulations to everyone involved! The judges loved the involvement, enthusiasm, effort and creativity of all the students! The school had to translate a song and sing it in the first language of this area. Our brilliant Music teachers taught all students our song during lessons and it was then videoed/produced by Trish Lonergan. More than 1400 students took part in the competition last year, as it is a great way to help preserve first languages. The immersion of Language in our school has been inspired by a presentation by Melinda Holden, (Amy Jacobsen’s 6D grandmother) who played a pivotal role in a Pilot Indigenous Language program.

Staying relevant in your child's digital world
by Martine Oglethorpe
As technology continues to advance at breakneck speed and our lives become more deeply immersed in the digital world, the challenges faced by parents in this uncharted territory can often feel overwhelming.
As a parent, worrying comes naturally. We hear so much about the dangers of the digital age: the predators, the pornography, the paedophiles, the gaming obsessions, the screen addictions and the cyber bullying.
So how can we ensure that our kids can reap the very best of what technology has to offer, while at the same time protecting them from those negative elements?
Managing Video Games and The Next Digital Craze Webinar
Martine takes a step back from the headlines, addresses the current myths and shares the latest research on the effects gaming has on young people today.
Driven to Distraction Webinar
This webinar discusses how families can incorporate technology and devices into their homes in a way that allows for positive use and engagement.
Learn ways to help your child’s social, emotional and cognitive development with positive screen time interaction.
We have a lot of lost property. If you are missing red jumpers, lunch boxes etc please come in to check. This will be cleaned out at the end of term.
We are open Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 8am at Tuckshop.
Your support with donations of spreads (not nut based) would be appreciated. Donations can be dropped off at Tuckshop.
