Welcome back to Term 2. As Kath Tarttelin takes up the role of Education Consultant, I have the privilege to take the role of Acting Principal for this fantastic school. One of the foundations for this school is the Spirit of Generosity. Our school was built on land generously donated by Pat and Ron Lynch and we have dedicated our Hall to this kind gesture. When the school opened in 1969, Marie Arnold (White House is named after her) rallied the parent community to assist with mowing and removing the chinee-apple trees. Maintaining a school is no easy task and our school community put their heart and soul into ensuring our school was well equipped.
Over our past 50+ years, parents have continued to be a wonderful support to this school. From working bees, volunteering at carnivals for swimming, athletics, cross country, the numerous Fetes and Mini Fetes, feast day celebrations, parent nights, IPC bingo and more. We still see this generosity with parents and community members as they continue the Spirit of Generosity in the tuckshop, classrooms, car park pick up zones, sacramental programs, carnivals and camps.
It is evident that parent involvement, support and presence in the School Board, Parent Reference Group, school activities has been a long tradition. Thank you for your continued support.
Holy Spirit Day is May 26 and we will again include our Spirit Steps into this day of celebrations. The fundraising for Spirit Steps is slightly different. this year. We are registered with Australian Fundraising under the name "Holy Spirit Catholic School Cranbrook".
Parents are asked to register their child/children on the secure, cybersafe website. The details for registration are included in the letter and booklet coming home today. This also allows for you to share your child's fundraising through your social circles such as Facebook etc.
All money raised will be going to the resources and furnishings in the new Library which we hope to have back this July.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Kristy Bates via email kbates@hsstsv.catholic.edu.au
Welcome back, everyone. I hope you all had a lovely Easter and are reinvigorated for the term ahead! On the church calendar, we are now in the Season of Easter which began with Easter Sunday and the resurrection of Jesus. It is seen as a time of new beginnings, of joy and thanksgiving, a celebration of the risen Lord, a period of fifty days ending with the coming of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost Sunday.
One of the Gospel stories told at this time is the story of the two disciples who met Jesus on the road to Emmaus after His death and Resurrection. They were telling others what had happened when Jesus suddenly appeared among them. Jesus reassured them telling them not to be afraid, and convinced them He was real and alive, despite His wounds, by eating a piece of fish. Jesus told His disciples to go out and tell the world that He had died and risen to new life. They were to be His witnesses to all that had happened. As members of the Christian family, we are called to follow Christ and be a witness for Him every day of our lives by living God’s way.
As we begin a new term, this week at Holy Spirit we value hospitality. Hospitality is about people welcoming others into spaces where they spend their time. It is making sure everyone is comfortable and offering help or guidance to those who need it. Therefore, our hospitality to others is a sign of our love for God, for God is always present when guests are present at the table. With the start of the new term, we often welcome new students and staff to our school. The value of hospitality will definitely be at work this week as we open our school to welcome new people.
At the end of last term, students from Grade 4, 5 and 6 presented Stations of the Cross for our school community. The students – both choir and actors – were outstanding in their singing and performing on both the Thursday night and Friday morning Liturgy. They are to be congratulated for their dedication over the last couple of weeks of the term as they practiced for the performances. Thank you to all our families who came along to see the students. It was lovely to hear so many positive comments that have been passed on to our students.
Next Tuesday is ANZAC Day, a day to remember the courageous men and women
who have served our nation during war, those who have died, those who have returned from war, those who are still in peacekeeping teams and those who have died while helping with humanitarian aid in war torn countries. On Wednesday at our Assembly, our whole school will gather for ANZAC Day Prayer and we invite everyone to join us in the Hall.
Project Compassion 2023 – FOR ALL FUTURE GENERATIONS
During Lent, we were asked to help raise funds to send to CARITAS to support their mission work. Words cannot express how wonderful it was to see such generosity shown by our students and families for this year’s appeal. Well done to all who contributed to the Project Compassion boxes at home and at school. A little bit goes a long way and it is great to share with our community that we raised just over $1000 for this worthy cause! Congratulations to our winners in the Easter Raffle.
Welcome back and God bless.

What is Earth Hour?
WWF’s Earth Hour is the world’s biggest movement to protect our planet.
Every year hundreds of millions of people around the world take part in Earth Hour. For 60 minutes people in more than 7,000 cities in over 190 countries switch off their lights as a symbolic gesture of solidarity to show they care about our planet and its future.
Earth Hour isn't just about switching off your lights. Our aim is to spark global conversations on the impacts of climate change and inspire positive action to protect our natural world. By working together we can help shape a bright future for us all.
This year, Earth Hour is at 8:30 pm local time Saturday 25 March. We're inviting all Australians to sign up to take #TimeOutForNature and join the global community of millions supporting stronger action on climate change
e-Safetyparents
The digital age we live in calls us to be more vigilant than ever, particularly as children use technology platforms from a young age. Therefore, the responsibility of adults, both at home and at school, is to ensure that children develop understanding and awareness of the importance of being safe online.
To support learning and development in this area, the e-Safety Commission provides comprehensive knowledge and interactive resources that are readily accessible to everyone, particularly children and their families.
A couple of examples to support children’s safety online are listed below, however for information, please visit e-Safetyparents.
A family tech agreement is a set of rules about how devices, like smartphones, tablets, computers, TVs and gaming consoles are used in your home.
Start the chat with your family and develop an agreement that will suit the age and needs of your children.
Want to know about the latest apps, games and social media that your child is using?
The eSafety Guide includes important advice about their safety features, including how to use the settings to report online abuse and protect personal information.
In this edition of SchoolTV - RESILIENCE
Resilience is one of those skills that all kids need and should have. It refers to their ability to cope and adapt in situations when confronted with challenges such as adversity, trauma, tragedy, or even stress. It is essential to their mental health and wellbeing as part of their journey to adulthood. It is a skill that can be learned from an early age through the support of an adult role model.
However, being resilient does not mean your child won't experience any difficulties, but it will better equip them to manage those situations. Over-protective parenting can be viewed as being unhelpful towards the building of resilience. Although this may be a natural instinct, potentially experiencing failure is all part of the process. Encouraging children to take healthy risks will help them trust their capacity to deal with uncomfortable situations and increase their capacity for courage.
In this edition of SchoolTV, parents will gain an understanding of how to support their child’s brave behaviour to help them adapt and build resilience.
We hope you take time to reflect on the information offered in this edition of SchoolTV and we always welcome your feedback. If you have any concerns about your child, please contact your child’s teacher for further information or seek medical or professional help.
