Today we celebrated a Thank You Liturgy. The purpose of the liturgy is to publicly acknowledge the parents, grandparents and carers who support our school community.
At last week’s official Opening and Blessing I acknowledged the members of the Holy Spirit School Board. Adults in our community easily recognise the work of our CAFE (formerly Parents and Friends Association), especially the work in organising the Holy Spirit Fete, however, the work of the School Board is not so easily identified.
Over the past six years, the members of the School Board advocated for the learning spaces for Prep, Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 and a refurbishment and an extension to the Music and LOTE building - that is more than twenty new classrooms! The members visited other catholic schools to look at the best designs and spoke on behalf of all parents, presenting the case for modern classrooms which would meet the needs of our students. The Board Members also advocated for the new staffroom and administration block to ensure parents could meet with relevant staff members, such as school counsellor or pastoral chaplain without traipsing across the school.
Part of the process in putting forward an application for building, is that community members speak with the representatives who allocate the funds across Queensland for all catholic schools.
Our Board members put forward our case and even recorded video messages. When we look at our school compared to five years ago, they certainly are the quiet achievers gaining millions of dollars to rebuild our school.
To the many parents who exude the spirit of generosity to ensure events take place in our school - take a bow! When you assist with an event such as working on a fete stall, helping in the classroom, at tuck-shop or at a sports carnival, you support our staff and all of our students.
Thank you and God bless!

With only a few weeks left in our 2021 school year, there are still many school events still to come. We have our Year 5 and 6's on camp next week, we also have our Orientation Day for those new to our school in 2022 or beginning Prep. Our swimming lessons will take place over the next few weeks for year 2, Year 1 and Prep. Our Inter House Swimming Carnival for Years 3-6 will be on November 26 and will culminate in the final points for our McAuley Shield. Please check the school calendar for all events still to come.
Now is a great time to check your Compass details and logins as we get close to the release of the report cards. Reports will be accessible on Compass on Tuesday 30th November from 4pm. If you are having any trouble with logging in, please contact the wonderful ladies in the office. They are only too happy to assist.
In Sunday’s Gospel story from the Gospel of Mark, Jesus was watching people putting their money into a collection box as their offering in the temple, when he noticed a poor widow drop two small coins into the box. This Gospel teaches us about giving and sharing, not how much but how we give it and what is in our hearts when we give it. The old woman only gave a little but it was all she had so in reality she gave everything. It is easy to share when we have plenty; it is much harder to give to others when we have very little ourselves.
This week at Holy Spirit we value gratitude. An important aspect of gratitude is noticing the positive that exist around us. When we show gratitude, we look for and show our thankfulness for the many things others do for us. At this morning’s Thank You Liturgy, our students and staff showed gratitude by recognising and thanking all those people who regularly take time to offer their assistance at our school and events. This week we pray that we notice good things, look for and appreciate them.

A child’s pathway to adulthood, and the accompanying journey of their parents, is generally viewed as linear. Growing up is seen as a straight-forward march from infancy, early childhood, childhood, adolescence, post-adolescence to adulthood. If COVID has taught us anything it’s that a child’s journey is full of twists and turns.
While your child has a developmental clock that keeps ticking over, it’s their experiences that determine their maturity and their ability to reach fully-fledged adulthood with the resilience, grit and adaptability needed to thrive. What are the experiences that will help children mature and cope with adversity when it inevitably comes their way? The experiences that develop maturity and coping capacities fit into two broad areas – challenging and positive experiences.
Michael Grose presents: Using birth order knowledge for a parenting edge
Effective parents and carers are always looking for an edge to help them raise happy, confident, resilient kids. Many people do a brilliant job of learning on the run, but can miss a rich vein of knowledge that’s right in front of them – a child’s birth order position.
In this webinar, Michael Grose explains how birth order position impacts on a child’s personality, attitudes and behaviour. He provides insights to help bring out the best in every child, reduce destructive sibling rivalry and increase family harmony.
Dr Justin Coulson presents: Connecting with teenage daughters
Trying to guide a teenage daughter through a complex adolescent world is… well, complicated. Alcohol and drugs, mental health concerns, body image issues, friendship issues, and premature and/or non-consensual intimacy are just the tip of the iceberg.
In this webinar, Dr Justin Coulson (father to 6 daughters) unpacks the science and provides practical real-world advice for parenting teenage daughters. You’ll discover what is really going on in their minds, how they really feel and what they wish you knew.
