Today we celebrated a Thank You Liturgy. The purpose of the liturgy is to publicly acknowledge the parents, grandparents and carers who support our school community. 

At last week’s official Opening and Blessing I acknowledged the members of the Holy Spirit School Board. Adults in our community easily recognise the work of our CAFE (formerly Parents and Friends Association), especially the work in organising the Holy Spirit Fete, however, the work of the School Board is not so easily identified.

Over the past six years, the members of the School Board advocated for the learning spaces for Prep, Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 and a refurbishment and an extension to the Music and LOTE building - that is more than twenty new classrooms! The members visited other catholic schools to look at the best designs and spoke on behalf of all parents, presenting the case for modern classrooms which would meet the needs of our students. The Board Members also advocated for the new staffroom and administration block to ensure parents could meet with relevant staff members, such as school counsellor or pastoral chaplain without traipsing across the school.

Part of the process in putting forward an application for building, is that community members  speak with the representatives who allocate the funds across Queensland for all catholic schools. 

Our Board members put forward our case and even recorded video messages. When we look at our school compared to five years ago, they certainly are the quiet achievers gaining millions of dollars to rebuild our school.

To the many parents who exude the spirit of generosity to ensure events take place in our school - take a bow!  When you assist with an event such as working on a fete stall, helping in the classroom, at tuck-shop or at a sports carnival, you support our staff and all of our students.
