- Our Mission Statement
This week, Laurence Hosking from the Townsville Catholic Education Office recognised a number of staff members with service awards.
Our staff members were recognised for service from ten years to an extraordinary 30 years! Congratulations to the following staff members, we thank them for their contribution to education and in particular, our school community.
10 Years: Zita Whiteside, Jo-Anne Steel, Marcella White
15 Years: Wendy Dixon,
20 Years: Evon Downie, Kim Williamson
25 years: Donna Muguira
30 Years: Kirsten Logan, Begona Bengoa
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, current research indicates the average person will have twelve to fifteen jobs in their working lifetime, so these staff members have provided stability for our students, given the majority have spent a high percentage of years serving at Holy Spirit.
Tonight we farewell our Year 6 students, we wish them well for the next stage of their journey, we also thank their parents who have worked and supported our school. Both students and parents have contributed to and enriched the life of our school. On behalf of the staff of Holy Spirit, thank you for your contribution throughout the year.
To all of our families, may this Christmas be filled with love, peace and joy!

St Margaret Mary’s College Visit
Last week, St Margaret Mary’s Year 9 students visited our Prep classes. The girls had to individually design and create chairs made out of cardboard. The prep students enjoyed testing the chairs and choosing their favourite. Well done, to the Year 9 girls the designs were creative and practical.
Just a reminder, as part of our uniform policy, black shoes are required for all days including sports days. Black joggers are the way to go as they can be worn every day. Some examples of acceptable shoes are pictured below.
Some of the shoes that will not be acceptable are the following.
Please consider this when purchasing for 2021.
Final Week of Term and Year
I want to take this moment to acknowledge the Year 6 children, families and staff moving on from our Holy Spirit community, and wish them all the best with their future endeavours. I hope when you look back at your time at Holy Spirit you have fond memories of your time here. I know we are all blessed to have had you in our lives and a part of our community.
LAST DAY
Students are permitted to wear coloured clothes on the last day of school but must wear their school hats, sun-safe clothing and closed in shoes. Students will be dismissed at 12.00pm.
School finishes at 12.00pm this Friday!
Coloured Clothes Day!
Wishing all of our families a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
May you all enjoy your holidays and be renewed for another year of learning in 2021.
Have a great week.

As we busily prepare for Christmas: planning, cleaning, spending, giving, attending breakups and various events, it is important we take a moment and reflect on what it all means for us and our families. The first Sunday of Advent marked the beginning of a period of preparation for the celebration of the birth of Christ, our Saviour, at Christmas. We are advised to make ourselves ready, to be on the alert, to turn aside from our errant ways, and give more time to God in our lives. The season of Advent encourages us to reflect and prepare for the coming of Jesus who came to show us a new way of being with God, ourselves and each other.
This week at Holy Spirit we value patience. Patience is a person's ability to wait something out or endure something tedious, without getting riled up. Having patience means you can remain calm, even when you've been waiting forever or dealing with something painstakingly slow or trying to teach someone how to do something and they just don't get it. This week, as we end the school year and enter the season of Advent, we pray our students and families show patience towards others and be on the lookout to help those in need.
THE ADVENT WREATH: The Advent wreath is a traditional centrepiece of the Christmas season. A candle is lit on each of the four Sundays preceding Christmas. The first candle (violet) represents hope, the second (violet) peace, the third (rose) joy and the fourth (violet) love. The central white candle is lit on Christmas Day and represents Christ. The word ‘advent’ means ‘coming’; lighting the candles on the Advent wreath symbolises the coming of Light (Jesus) into the world. The Advent Wreath teaches us about Christian preparation for celebrating Jesus’ birth and making our hearts truly ready to receive Him. Making an advent wreath and praying a blessing each week with your children is a wonderful way to countdown to Christmas.
Have a safe and happy holiday.
God bless.

NQ School Sport Aquathlon Trials
Congratulations to the following students Andrew 5D, A-Tai 5B, Brigitte 5D, Emily 5C and Mala 5C for taking part in the North Queensland School Aquathlon Trials at Riverway last Sunday Morning. For many students it was their first experience of an Aquathlon. Well done to Mala 3rd place and Brigitte 8th place who were selected in the NQ Team to travel to Hervey Bay in February to compete in the State Championships.
