Welcome to the start of what is to be a blockbusting term at Holy Spirit. As Queensland revises the Roadmap to Recovery from this ‘bug’, we continue to plan to see how we can continue with planned events and follow the guidelines set down by both Qld Public Health and from the Catholic Education Office. Our Holy Spirit community continues to amaze me at how supportive they are of staff, students and other families in such trying times. Thank you awesome people!
You may have noticed that the admin office is now located in Bibi Goo Yumba near the Library. We are nearing the start date for the next exciting stage of our building project. As a Year 4 boy explained to me yesterday, “ When this is done Mr Martin, we are going to have the best school in Queensland.” I totally agree. The next stage will see our administration block extended out onto the basketball court with a new front entry.
This will commence in the next 2 weeks and will impact the Hatchett Street pick up zone. To assist both at this area and with the Church car park, can you please have the family name on a piece of card/paper in the windscreen or on the visor so that students can be called and be ready and waiting in the pick up zone. The Main Roads department has also asked and we want to keep you safe as well, that we have no cars parked across driveways or waiting along Ross River Road. Thank you for assisting us to keep our families and students safe.
As was mentioned in a message to families on the week-end via Compass, Ms Geraldine Egelton is currently assisting with the care for her Mum as she has taken ill in recent weeks. Geraldine is hoping to be back in our community for the start of week 5. Please keep Geraldine and her family in your prayers.
During the holidays, Columba Catholic College in Charters Towers lost one of their students in a freak accident on a family property. We wish this school community our prayers as this young lady is laid to rest this week. Rest in Peace Mackenzie Guild.
Happy Days
Paul Martin
Acting Principal
Welcome back to Term 4 and what a busy term it will be.
Book Week
Each year, schools and libraries across Australia spend a week celebrating books. Teachers and librarians highlight the importance of reading. We are celebrating Book Week from 19 - 23 October (Week 3). The theme this year is ‘Curious Creatures, Wild Minds’. From the Curious Creatures inhabiting the world of the Gruffalo or Dr Seuss to the Wild Minds found in Harry Potter or Alice in Wonderland there is a character for everyone to enjoy dressing up as. There will be no assembly this year, however, students will be able to come dressed in their favourite book character one day during Week 3 day. Day TBC
Before and After School Supervision
At times we do have visitors in our school grounds and student safety is our primary concern. Just a reminder to parents that supervision of students commences at 8am each morning. At the end of the day, students are supervised in the Hall, at the Church or at the Gazebo on Albert Street until 3:10pm. Your assistance with this is appreciated.
Have a great week.

Acting Assistant to the Principal - Admin
In Sunday’s gospel (Matthew 22:1-14), Jesus tells the story of a King who had a wedding feast for his son. The invited guests refused to come so he sent his servants to invite everyone they met. We are all invited to accept God’s invitation to join him in the Kingdom of heaven by making an effort to do what is right and follow God’s way. We encourage our students through their actions and words to respect each other and take pride in doing their best.
Today is the Feast Day of Our Lady of the Rosary. Formerly known as Our Lady of Victory and Feast of the Holy Rosary, on this day is traditionally a day to pray for peace in the world. With the many incidents we see and hear of in relation to violence both at home and abroad, there is a great need to pray for peace. You might like to pray a decade of the Rosary for peace in our world with your family.
October is Missions Month. The World Mission Month of October is a time when we can teach our children to respect people from other cultures and reach out to those people, particularly children who live in poverty. It is an opportunity for reflection, prayer and support for the missionary efforts of individuals, communities and the whole Church. This year, students across Australia are encouraged to not only learn about Cambodia and the work of the Church there, but to do something extraordinary for Mission through the fundraising, advocacy and prayers.
When we look at the world at times, we can see that it is not very fair. Some people have lots of food. Some people don’t have enough. Some people have clean water in their homes. Some people have to walk a long way to collect water for their families. Catholic Missions gives hope to communities so that real changes can be made for people in need around the world. For more information on how people are being supported in Cambodia, please visit: https://www.catholicmission.org.au/our-work/see-our-work-in-action/wmm20-cambodia-appeal
This week at Holy Spirit we value compassion. What does this mean? It means sympathetic pity and concern for the sufferings or misfortunes of others. Compassion gives us the ability to understand someone else's situation and the desire to take action to improve their lives. It is the quality that allows us to step outside of ourselves and see the circumstances of others. It supplies the will power to do what is necessary to make the world a more caring place. What better way can our community show compassion? By supporting Catholic Missions and the good work of many people across the globe.
Welcome back to Term 4 and God bless.

As part of Veteran's Health Week, we will be opening up categories for Units, families and School students (must be accompanied by an adult). Teams are invited to jog, walk or sprint their way through a series of checkpoints and challenges in a race against the clock to find the most clues. Enter a team (no more than 6 people), test your skill and have some fun. We will be looking for the most original team name and the best dressed team. The event is suitable for everyone from families with prams through to teens, couples and single members.

Raising children has always been best when it’s a community affair. In previous generations, aunts, uncles, grandparents, godparents and family friends – spare parents, or sparents –all played a part in raising kids.
The last decade has seen the rise of parenting as an individual endeavour, which can place crushing pressure for parents to always be at their best. A child can never have too many spare parents.
