As we see ongoing change in routines and practices of what we generally take for granted in our community, it is reassuring to see people working together and learning from each other.
Dr. Michael Carr-Gregg, one of Australia's highest profile psychologists who frequently appears in the media has provided a video with some sound advice for parents, caregivers and teachers through a video.
The six minute video gives advice as to how we can reassure students rather than making children worried. The link to the video is:

Currently we have a number of students where parents have decided to self-isolate. Teachers are working to create websites and activities to support student learning.
As families may be spending more time at home together a pack of cards is an inexpensive resource which can provide more than traditional card games.
Younger children can use the cards to match pairs or add and subtract simple numbers e.g. 5 + 2 or 5-2. As children’s Maths skills progress, the cards can be used for multiplication e.g. 5 x 2. Possibilities are only limited by our imagination!
Should there be any information we need to distribute to parents we will use Compass, Facebook and email. Please make sure the school office and your child’s teacher have your current contact details.
If you do not have a Compass login please contact the school office, 47794255 and one of the staff members will be happy to assist you.
God Bless
Geraldine

Hi Families,
Even though we were not able to demonstrate our super swimming abilities at the A schools swimming carnival, we are still very proud of our students and their commitment to the training. They are a very enthusiastic group who were super proud to be representing our school.
Thank you again to our families for your continued support of our teams. Thanks also to the many staff involved in the preparation of our Holy Spirit Swim team. Volunteering to do these types of tasks helps to add to our already vibrant school community.
Naplan 2020 is again happening, at this stage, in mid May for Year 3 and 5. Staff have continued with their training around protocols and test details so as to best prepare our students. If you have any questions around Naplan, please see your child's teacher or myself. A schedule of the testing days will be published shortly to the school community. Staff and students are accessing the browser from school but the public demonstration site can be used at home. This site is Naplan public demonstration site.
Please be aware that all inter-school sport activities from season sport to rep trials are currently cancelled. As more information comes to hand, we will let you know.
Happy Days
Paul Martin
The Gospel for the third Sunday of Lent describes the meeting between Jesus and a Samaritan woman beside a well. In Jesus’ time, the Samaritan’s and Jews hated each other but Jesus spoke to the woman kindly. This story reminds us that God loves all people no matter where they are from. God asks us to be like Jesus and to respect and care for all people no matter who they are.
This week at Holy Spirit, we value self-discipline. This is often seen as the ability to do what you know you should do, when you should do it, whether or not you feel like it. Self-discipline can be witnessed when we are able to control impulsive behaviours and take responsibility for our actions. During this time of Lent, we encourage children to be conscious of their behaviour and endeavour to do the right thing.
This week our Project Compassion feature story is Sakun from India. Thirty-two-year-old Sakun lives in a village in central-east India. She developed polio as a child and has difficulty walking. Until now Sakun, an indigenous Gond woman, has been isolated in her community, unable to earn a livelihood and without knowledge of government schemes that could help her. Sakun lives with her sister in a rural area of Chhattisgarh, India’s poorest state, home to 26 million people, with 10 million living in poverty. Life is hard in this region, and even harder for the state’s indigenous people.
Sakun belongs to the Gond tribal community which is amongst India’s officially designated Scheduled Castes and Tribes. Historically disadvantaged, they suffer higher poverty rates than other parts of India.
In 2018, Sakun joined a Caritas Australia-funded program which is implemented by Caritas India and its local partner, Samarthan. Through their strategic guidance and support, Sakun learned new skills and gained important mobility.
Sakun now earns her own income and makes a small profit which goes towards her family’s basic needs. She is more resilient, more confident and more independent.
With your help, Caritas Australia can help uplift vulnerable communities and support the right of indigenous peoples around the world. A brighter future for women, men and their families can start today. Let’s Go Further, Together.

Tomorrow, 19th March, is the Feast Day of St Joseph. St Joseph was the husband of Mary and the foster-father of Jesus. We know Joseph loved Jesus and when Jesus stayed in the Temple, Joseph (along with Mary) searched with great anxiety for three days for him. We also know that Joseph treated Jesus as his own son for over and over the people of Nazareth say of Jesus, "Is this not the son of Joseph?" Joseph teaches us forgetfulness of self in the service of others. He is the patron saint of fathers and workers.
Have a great week.
God bless

Australian Military Wives Choir
Were you lucky enough to see the special screening of the movie Military Wives this week? Based on the true story of military wives in the UK who formed a choir whilst their husbands were deployed, it is definitely a must see. It embodied the motto of our very own Australian Military Wives Choir; “stronger together”. It was wonderful to hear our local choir perform before the movie and we all enjoyed a sing along with them.
The AMW Choir is for female voices with a connection to a currently serving Australian Defence Force member or a foreign defence force member stationed in Australia. We welcome wives, partners, girlfriends, mothers, daughters, sisters and female ADF members. There are no auditions and you don’t need any previous experience - just a love of singing
If you would like to know more, there is will be a “come & try” night at Geckos next Thursday 19 March. Why not come and join in the fun. For more info email the Coordinator, Claudia at townsville@amwchoir.com
