Is your home filled with Digital Natives? Marc Prensky defines the term "digital native" and applies it to a new group of students enrolling in educational establishments referring to the young generation as "native speakers" of the digital language of computers, videos, video games and social media.Children in strollers easily understand swiping and recognise favourite apps.

Mini Vinnies Sleepout - 26th October 2018
Vinnies School Sleepouts provide a unique insight into the complex issues that people experiencing homelessness face; issues often overlooked and misunderstood by the wider community.
They also provide students with an opportunity to experience what it is like to be homeless by ‘sleeping rough’ for one night. Their participation raises awareness of the realities facing people experiencing homelessness.
On Friday 26th October, the Year 6 Mini Vinnies students will participate in our annual Mini Vinnies SleepOut. It will be an evening of challenges, reflection and raising awareness.
Thank you to the parents/carers who will support their children in this important event and for the donation of pillows which will be given to St Vincent De Paul at our next whole school assembly.
If anyone else in our school community would like to support our Mini Vinnies in the SleepOut, you might like to donate a new pillow to the school office or directly to the St. Vincent De Paul office in West End.
National Aboriginal And Torres Strait Islander Health Survey
What's your health story?
Tell us by taking part in the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Survey (NATSIHS) - Interviewers from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) are now knocking on doors in your area, so make your story heard!
The NATSIHS collects information about the health status of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We will ask you a range of questions face-to-face about your health and lifestyle, such as:
- visits to doctors, nurses or Aboriginal health workers
- health conditions
- medications
- smoking
- exercise
- what you eat and drink
You will have the opportunity to take part in a voluntary hearing test and have some physical measurements taken, if you agree (height, weight, waist and blood pressure).
For general enquiries, visit the ABS website at www.abs.gov.au/surveyinfo

Teach kids not to jump to conclusions
by Michael Grose
Many children jump to conclusions when an unpleasant situation occurs, thinking and acting impulsively rather than thinking rationally before reacting (this is not just the domain of kids, by the way!). While these snap judgements may be justified, in reality they are the least likely to be the right ones.
For example, imagine a boy walking across a schoolyard when he’s hit in the face by a football. He automatically thinks someone is trying to hurt him, basing his conclusion on the fact that he has been on the receiving end of some rough treatment in the past. He is angry and starts a fight with the boy who kicked the ball, with both of them ending up in trouble.
Resilience Pack
Resilience is linked with good mental health habits and also with a child's success.
This informative, easy to access e-Book bundle is a must-have for parents as they develop the skills of resilience in their kids.
21 Days to a Happier Family Webinar

Monday 22nd October is a Pupil Free Day and La Luna Youth Arts is offering a full day of creative arts experiences for primary school children. Your child/ren will participate in ice-breaker and team building games, learn a dance routine, play improv games and theatre sports, create their own unique artwork, design their own game, all while making new friends and having lots of fun!
The workshops will run from 9am-3pm, however children can be dropped off any time from 8am and can be picked up as late as 4pm as there will be plenty of fun and games to be had before and after the workshops.
The cost is $60 per child and all the children need to bring with them is a water bottle and enough food to sustain their energy for the day. For bookings or enquiries, please call us on 4773 6377, email admin@lalunanq.com or send us a PM.
