Is your home filled with Digital Natives? Marc Prensky defines the term "digital native" and applies it to a new group of students enrolling in educational establishments referring to the young generation as "native speakers" of the digital language of computers, videos, video games and social media.Children in strollers easily understand swiping and recognise favourite apps.
Many parents will be aware of the recent Queensland Report on Cyberbullying and State Government plans to take a tougher stand on cyber bullying. Education is just one of the keys, so what can parents do?
1. Reduce access to devices where children have access to social media
2. Ensure social media, that is Facebook, Instagram etc is age appropriate
3. If your child has a smartphone ensure it is not kept in your child's bedroom at night
4. Talk to your child about friendship, explain how good friends treat each other.
Cyber bullying has been a key agenda item at our P & F (Parents and Friends) meetings throughout the year. The P & F is keen to organise a parent evening on cyber safety in early 2019.

Dr. Kristy Goodwin's book 'Raising Your Child in a Digital World' provides excellent information for digital immigrants - those of us born after the spread of digital technology and who were not exposed to it at an early age.
