- Our Mission Statement
Today our school captains, house captains and student leaders were commissioned at our Opening Mass. Congratulations to these students who were elected by their peers.
Our student leaders are comprised of eight school captains and six house captains from Year 6 and four class representatives from Year 5. It is a Holy Spirit tradition for parents or caregivers to pin the badge on their child as a symbol of support. I appreciate the effort parents and caregivers made to attend this occasion.
It is impressive to see ten and eleven year olds willing to take on these leadership roles and I look forward to them sharing their skills and qualities with our school community.
As we all settle into the routine of school, many children are forming new friendships. This, at times can be challenging for some students. Why is it that some children seem to have many friends and others just a few?
Child psychologist, Michael Grose provides ideas as to how parents can help children to adjust socially at the start of the school year. Michael’s article ‘Making New Friends and Staying in Touch with Old Classmates’, suggests an open, friendly attitude is a child or young person’s best social asset.
Students who open to forming new friendships are more likely to succeed than those who seek solitude, who are critical and who limit themselves to just one or two familiar faces. Encourage your child or young person to seek out new friendships, even though they may feel uncomfortable or strange at first.
It goes without saying that an open, friendly attitude is also an asset for adults.

God bless,

We survived week 1 and are powering our way through week 2. Time flies when you're having fun.
Thank you to the many families who have taken the time to prepare our students for 2020 with correct uniforms, packed lunches, school supplies and a smile on their faces. It was fantastic to see so many families take up the invitation at our 'Meet and Greet' before school began.
Swimming training begins Thursday 6th February and Mr Place, our PE teacher, will be taking charge with his band of fantastic staff members. Students can meet staff in the tuckshop shed at 7.30 and be walked over to the pool via the IPC ovals. If parents are dropping students, please do not park in the IPC carpark. This is for their staff parking.
In the near future, school photo envelopes will be coming home. Our photos are scheduled for March 2 and 3 ( week 6 ) and envelopes will be sent home with students when we receive them. Linked HERE is a copy of the uniform policy when sorting uniforms for photos.
Our new buildings for Year 5 and 6 are just about ready for staff and students to move in. Some finishing touches are being added and we hope to be in these rooms by the time you read the newsletter next week. Our C.A.F.E group met last Monday and had a tour of the rooms.
In the interest of our students and public safety please be aware that there is NO parking in the "No Standing Zones" on Ross River Road near the traffic lights crossing.
Thank you for your co-operation.

Welcome to the Holy Spirit School Community
We would like to introduce ourselves, Kerry Donlan and Haylie Stanhope, as the Defence School Transition Aides here at Holy Spirit Catholic School. This position has been created to support students of Defence families, enrolling in or transferring to new schools, during deployments and Defence separations. We also have both experienced the unsettling nature of mobility, deployment and Defence seperation and know how stressful if can be on all members of the family.
After twelve months living in Tasmania, I have returned to the position of Pastoral Chaplain/Defence School Mentor and look forward to reconnecting and working with Holy Spirit students and families. You can find me at the end of K Block, so please feel free to come over and say hello!
God’s blessings and peace for the 2020 school year.
Kerry
