Last Sunday, toddlers to grandparents were present to continue the celebration of our 50 Years of education. Our students prayerfully led the singing at the parish mass and family members of all ages joined the fun of our first Colour Me Crazy Run. The enjoyment of participants and spectators was tangible and wonderful to see so many happy faces.
Have you thought about the ‘WHY’ of being happy? There are many self-help books, psychologists and experts providing wise words, on how to be happy.
Last term the principals across our diocese spent a day with Dr. Jo Lukins who emphasised the importance of gratitude. Father John at last Sunday’s mass, too, commented on thanking God for the many things we take for granted. Being grateful is a positive step towards happiness.
Events such as the Colour Me Crazy require the generosity of staff members and parents alike. Thank you to our Assistant Principal, Mr Paul Martin, Greg and Matt, the grounds staff, the school Events’ Team and our CAFE (formerly Parents and Friends) Team who generously worked from early Sunday morning to ensure this event was a success. Thank you for your attendance in making the day a success.
I am grateful for the positive and generous members of our school community.
God bless
Geraldine
Well what a fantastic day we had on Sunday. First we had our School Parish Mass where we saw lots of our families joining in this celebration. Following this we had our first ever Holy Spirit Catholic School Colour Me Crazy Run. Huge thanks goes to our staff and parents who worked tirelessly setting up, helping out during the sessions and for packing up afterwards. Events like this only work with this great support from our fantastic volunteers. THANK YOU ONE AND ALL!
It was a joy to see so many smiley colourful people at the end of the sessions. The photos speak for themselves.
A reminder that next Monday is a Pupil Free Day, so you get to have an extra sleep in. Enjoy your week
Mini Vinnies Sleepout - 18th October 2019
Vinnies School Sleepouts provide a unique insight into the complex issues that people experiencing homelessness face; issues often overlooked and misunderstood by the wider community.
The sleepout provides students with an opportunity to experience what it is like to be homeless by ‘sleeping rough’ for one night. Their participation raises awareness of the realities facing people experiencing homelessness.
On Friday 18th October, the Year 6 Mini Vinnies students will participate in our annual Mini Vinnies SleepOut. It will be an evening of challenges, reflection and raising awareness.
Thank you to the parents/carers who will support their children in this important event and for the donation which will be given to St Vincent De Paul at our next whole school assembly.
If anyone else in our school community would like to support our Mini Vinnies in the Sleepout, you might like to donate one of the following: linen, towels, or pillows to the school office or directly to the St. Vincent De Paul office in West End.
Congratulations to Evon Downie, class teacher in 2A and Sarah Pugh, class teacher in 4D. Last Friday evening, Evon and Sarah were amongst a small group of Townsville teachers who attended a ceremony at James Cook University, where they were recognised for their highly effective contribution in educating and mentoring preservice teachers.
