Today we celebrated Grandparents’ Day. Each year our students invite, encourage or coerce their grandparents to come to school and they arrive in droves despite the challenge of finding a parking spot!
Parents are increasingly busy. Often both parents are working and supportive grandparents make a huge difference to busy families. They not only provide emotional support but also supply a reliable and free taxi and babysitting service.
Children can learn attitudes, values and skills from grandparents. Grandparents make up a large number of volunteers in our community and as such are great role models for their grandchildren.
At Holy Spirit grandparents assist in the classroom, on Sports’ Days, in the tuck-shop, at the fete and even a school camp!
Today we salute the grandparents and those who fulfil the role of grandparents. May God bless you in abundance!

God Bless,
Geraldine
Holy Spirit Catholic School continues to celebrate 50 Years of Catholic Education here in Townsville. We will hold our very first "COLOUR ME CRAZY" fun run on October 13. We would love to invite our Holy Spirit families to join in the fun together as a special way to celebrate our 50 years. More information is coming. Spread the word!
Hope everybody had a fantastic Father's day last Sunday. It was wonderful to see our students making cards, ties and purchasing items from the Father's Day stall last thursday. A huge THANKS for the amazing people who volunteered to assist with the running of our stall.
Our Year 2 students ventured to the Billabong Sanctuary last Friday to put their learning to the test about our Australian animals. A great time was had by all and the animals loved being around our amazing students. Congratulations to our Year 2 teachers for a well organised excursion.
The sitting of parliament is currently happening here in Townsville and some of our students attended on Tuesday. Mrs Church and 10 of our Year 6 students visited the Entertainment Centre to learn more about how government works and about the election process. I think we nearly elected Mrs Church as the new Premier. Thanks to our students and staff for their exemplary behaviour and commitment to student learning.
Happy Days!
Paul Martin
In Jesus’ ministry, meals shared with friends and followers often formed the backdrop to some important teachings of Jesus about the values of the kingdom of God. Jesus showed no favouritism but welcomed all in the community particularly the needy to share the meal a practice which is carried on today when we join together around the altar to listen to God’s words and share the Eucharistic meal at Sunday Mass. In Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus reminded his listeners that everyone must act with humility and see themselves as the servants of the community rather than those whom the community might feel honoured to serve. Around the Lord’s Table there is a state of equality for all are equally there by God’s invitation, grace, and mercy.
This week at Holy Spirit, we value thankfulness. This is the feeling of being happy or grateful because of something. When we are pleased and grateful for something we have, this is an example of a time when we are thankful. This also helps us all to think of other people’s feelings and acknowledging the good by paying them a compliment or simply being reminded of the good things in our lives. This week we pray that our students show they are thankful for the good things in their lives to those around them.
Today is a special day as grandchildren, children and the community thanked grandparents for their love and support. Grandparents have a unique role in our lives, not only in their love and care of their children and grandchildren but in connecting us to the values, stories and histories of our families and communities. Thank you to all our grandparents who joined us today.
God bless.

Well done to the six students from Grade 5 who participated in ‘Transferring Wizz-Dom!’ on Sunday at the regional Opti-MINDS Challenge Day. The students have spent the last 7 weeks preparing their presentation to demonstrate their science engineering prowess.
Congratulations on a great performance Samuel Flynn, Arael Barnes, Emmy Radeck, Olivia Momon, Isabella Rose and Jake Daldy.
On Monday afternoon Year 4 to Year 6 students competed in an inter-school Robotics Competition.
Our students worked in a team to program the robot to complete a challenge.
The students are to be commended for their concentration, persistence and problem solving skills after a day at school!
Well done boys and girls!
Thank you to Mrs Lonergan for ensuring our students had this opportunity and to the parents who supported the children.
