APRE News

In Jesus’ ministry, meals shared with friends and followers often formed the backdrop to some important teachings of Jesus about the values of the kingdom of God.  Jesus showed no favouritism but welcomed all in the community particularly the needy to share the meal a practice which is carried on today when we join together around the altar to listen to God’s words and share the Eucharistic meal at Sunday Mass.  In Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus reminded his listeners that everyone must act with humility and see themselves as the servants of the community rather than those whom the community might feel honoured to serve.  Around the Lord’s Table there is a state of equality for all are equally there by God’s invitation, grace, and mercy.

This week at Holy Spirit, we value thankfulness.  This is the feeling of being happy or grateful because of something.  When we are pleased and grateful for something we have, this is an example of a time when we are thankful.  This also helps us all to think of other people’s feelings and acknowledging the good by paying them a compliment or simply being reminded of the good things in our lives.  This week we pray that our students show they are thankful for the good things in their lives to those around them.

Today is a special day as grandchildren, children and the community thanked grandparents for their love and support.  Grandparents have a unique role in our lives, not only in their love and care of their children and grandchildren but in connecting us to the values, stories and histories of our families and communities.  Thank you to all our grandparents who joined us today.
