- Our Mission Statement
Parent engagement is more than volunteering and helping out at the school. While we value any contribution you can make to school life, we understand that work and family commitments can make it difficult to be involved in an ongoing way. We invite you to engage in your child’s learning, faith formation and wellbeing by supporting and/or attending:
● Our sacramental programs
● School assemblies
● Open classrooms
● ...and offering any other practical assistance either on-site or from home
Schools are constantly evolving and transforming. Our methods of teaching and learning are also changing. This year we will be offering sessions at school and via video recordings or Zoom that explore the curriculum as well as practical ideas for assisting your child with their learning. More information will be provided after our first P&F meeting, which will be held this coming Monday.
Parents and Friends Meeting
Time: 6pm – 7pm
Where: Boardroom or via Zoom.
Please email Kristy Bates kbates@hsstsv.catholic.edu.au by Monday 2pm if you would like to receive a Zoom link.
Tuckshop Flexischools
Please ensure you have created a profile in Flexischools by following the information in this flyer.
The tuckshop staff can only process orders received through Flexischools. Due to the time required to prepare the food, there are particular cut off times for ordering. It is important to be mindful of these times because our staff only monitor orders received at certain times of the day.
If you are able to volunteer in our Tuckshop, please get in touch with our Tuckshop team via c11.tuckshoporders@hsstsv.catholic.edu.au
Best wishes
Kath
This week, our Resilient Leaders workshop began with some of our Year 5 and 6 students. Our group are working with members from the Townsville Blackhawks each week for the next 6 weeks. They are discussing topics such as resilience and how we bounce back in times of trouble or disappointment. They are also looking into how we can use our gifts and talents to be great leaders of the future. Thank you to Tim and Cathane for their work with our students.
Naplan
Naplan is just around the corner for our Year 3 and 5 students. This year, it is being held in Term 1 from March 15 - 27.
If you have any questions about Naplan, please do not hesitate to contact your class teacher for further details. Please click here to view the Naplan information brochure.
Happy Days
Paul Martin
When Moses was leading God’s people through the desert, God gave them ten rules or commandments to help the people to live in God’s way. In Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus reminds His followers of these rules which were to guide and teach them how to show respect and love for Him and each other. Our SPIRIT Way encourages our students to develop attitudes of inclusion, co-operation, shared responsibility, self-discipline and mutual respect lived in the spirit of Gospel Values.
This week at Holy Spirit Catholic School, we value respect. Having respect for someone means you think good things about who a person is or how he or she acts. Respect also means that you accept somebody for who they are, even when they are different from you or you don’t agree with them. We often use the value of respect in schools when we are speaking with children and how they treat others. We reinforce that showing respect to someone means they act in a way that shows they care about their feelings and well-being. This week, we pray that our students show respect for others by thinking and acting in a way that shows others they care about their feelings and their well-being, not calling others names, treating each other with courtesy and caring about themselves.
Sacramental Programme: A reminder to all families with children participating in the Sacramental Programme that the Parent Information Sessions are being held Monday 13th February at 6:30pm in the Church and Tuesday 14th February at 2pm in the Church. There is an expectation from Fr John that families attend one of these two sessions to learn about the programme and what it involves. The Sacramental Programme is open to all students in Grade 4, 5 and 6. All those wishing to be part of the Sacramental Programme should have completed the necessary forms and returned them to the Parish Office.
Tuesday 21st February, is Shrove Tuesday. In ancient times, this was a day of celebration, when there were processions and people feasted together before they entered a time of fasting and prayer during Lent. Today, many still follow this tradition by eating pancakes. This is associated with the ancient custom of eating the last supplies of milk, flour and eggs before the beginning of Lent. This year the Caritas Project Compassion Appeal Launch which will be taking place at Gilroy Santa Maria College, Ingham.
God bless.

Congratulations to Jaxon Leonardi for making the Townsville District 10-12yrs Boys Cricket team. Eight students out of forty-six were chosen to attend the Northern Trials. Well done Jaxon and good luck at these trials.
Safety around our Pick Up Zones
Hatchett St Carpark - Students wait in the Hall and families are called by a member of admin to meet in the pick up zone in the carpark.
Albert Street - A staff member is supervising students inside the gates on Albert St as parents park in the allocated parks to collect their child.
Church Carpark - A member of admin calls families to the designated pick up zones. Students are seated on the grassed area and are supervised by staff.
Can I please ask, for the safety of our students, that cars are not parked illegally on footpaths, in ``No Standing" areas, on the crossing. Your assistance with this is greatly appreciated.
