Fundraisers 2022
This year we will be holding two fundraising events which we are seeking sponsorship for prizes. Spirit Steps will take place as part of our Feast Day celebrations this term and a Bumper Christmas Cent Sale will take place alongside our annual Christmas Carols evening. A letter was sent home with your child last week and I’d like to thank the many families and business owners for their contributions. If you can assist, please let us know. A copy of the note can be accessed HERE.
Spirit Steps
Fundraising cards will be sent home on Friday and can be returned every Friday in the lead up to the event on 17 June. Children have the opportunity to receive incentive prizes once they have raised $10, $20, $50, $100 and $200+. Further information will accompany the fundraising card being sent home this coming Friday.
Parents and Friends Association
On Tuesday evening we held our P&F meeting for May. Our discussions were focused on Spirit Steps and the upcoming Resilience Project Parent Webinar. The webinar is on tonight from 6.30pm – 8pm. A link was sent through Compass for parents to access this session.
To accommodate more participation at our monthly P&F meetings, we are going to trial alternating afternoon and evening meeting times. Parents are able to ZOOM in for these meetings as well. Our next meeting will be held as follows:
When: Monday 13 June
Time: 2pm – 2.45pm
Where: Staffroom
Unwell Children
As we head into the cooler months, we are all susceptible to flu and the common cold. With COVID also still in our midst, it is really important that we continue to encourage children to practise good hygiene techniques. It is also paramount that if your child is unwell that they stay at home. Children displaying any symptoms of flu or COVID will need to be collected from school. Children who are unwell are unable to learn. They need to rest and recover and the best place for this is at home. These measures also ensure that symptoms are not passed onto classmates and staff. Thank you for your co-operation with this important matter.
Staffing Update
Tomorrow we farewell Mrs Alex Marty, 4C teacher, who will be going on Maternity leave to await the arrival of her first child. We wish Alex and her husband, Jordan, every blessing as they prepare to start their little family. Welcome to Mrs Sonia Foster who will teach 4C for the remainder of the year.
Best wishes
Kath
ADOPT-A-COWBOY
A big thank you to our Adopt-a-Cowboy, Valentine Holmes, for spending time with Year 5D recently and participating in the group challenge. He spoke to the students about communication and looking out for each other, reinforcing our value of the week, gratitude.

RESILIENCE PROJECT
The Resilience Project continues in its second year here at Holy Spirit. The students work through lessons around Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness. The program aims to teach positive mental health strategies to our young students to become happier and more resilient.
There is a parent webinar tonight starting at 6.30pm to give parents information and strategies. This webinar is being presented by Martin Heppell and he is a fantastic, enthusiastic presenter. You are going to love his presentation

Happy Days
Paul Martin
In the readings for the Sixth Sunday of Easter, Jesus promises the disciples that the Holy Spirit will teach them everything and remind them of all he has said to them (John 14:23-29). At Confirmation, we learn of the gifts of the Holy Spirit that bequeath us with knowledge, understanding, wisdom, courage, right judgement, reverence and awe. Jesus asks us to let the Holy Spirit live in our hearts so we are close to God and filled with his peace and goodness.
This week at Holy Spirit we value generosity. Generosity has been described as: “ready to give freely, unselfish, free from smallness or pettiness of mind or character:” Generosity is simple, kind and readily available. It's about giving 100% even when you don't have to. It's about treating people the way you'd want to be treated. Everyone loves being around generous people. There is something so special about generous people that brings life, joy, empowerment and freedom into the atmosphere when they turn up. We can teach our children to live a life of generosity whether they are financially secure or not. They don’t have to wait to have an income and our generosity doesn’t have
to be limited by our income. The only thing that limits our generosity is
our mindset and our character.
Last weekend, students in the Holy Spirit Parish Sacramental Programme attended their final workshop followed by Mass. Students will receive the Confirmation and First Eucharist Sacraments on Monday 6th June at 6:30pm. The Mass will be presided by Bishop Tim. Please keep these students in your prayers.
Pentecost Sunday is the 5th of June. Apostolic Nuncio, Archbishop Charles Balvo, will join with Bishop Tim Harris at the Sacred Heart Cathedral. You’re invited to attend and meet Archbishop Balvo as he visits the Townsville Diocese for the first time since his appointment in January this year. All are welcome to join in the celebrations of Pentecost.
The Feast of Mary, Help of Christians is May 24th. Mary Help of Christians is the Patron Saint of Australia and also of the Townsville Diocese. When the Bishops of Australia met for their first synod, in 1844, they decided that under the title “Help of Christians”, Our Lady should become the Patroness of the Australian Church. Mary has long been recognised for her powerful role as intercessor to her Son, Jesus, for the needs of the faithful and their protection.
God Bless,
Caroline Fuller

In this edition of SchoolTV - HAPPINESS & GRATITUDE
Happiness is a term that captures a huge variety of positive emotions such as humour, serenity, optimism, joy, pride, inspiration, love and hope. Happiness means different things, to different people and is essential to your understanding of emotional literacy. Throughout history, philosophers, religious writers and poets have pondered on the meaning of happiness and how it might be achieved. In the last few decades, scientists and psychologists have researched this further by studying a field of science called positive psychology.
The result of this research suggests there is a strong correlation between gratitude and greater happiness. Practising gratitude helps you shift your focus to positive memories or experiences, noticing the good in your life. Over time, this will re-wire your brain to create new neural pathways, increase your state of happiness and overall wellbeing.
In this edition of SchoolTV, parents and care-givers will learn how to achieve happiness and the benefits of practising gratitude.
We hope you take time to reflect on the information offered in this edition of SchoolTV and we always welcome your feedback. If you have any concerns about your child, please contact your child’s teacher for further information or seek medical or professional help.
