Welcome to Term 4! During the holidays, our Executive Director of Catholic Education announced that Ms Kath Tarttelin will be the new principal for our school.
This news has been well received by staff members and those families who know Kath or know of her reputation. Kath is a past staff member who brings a wealth of experience having held the role of principal in three of our schools across the diocese.
Throughout this term I will be meeting with Kath to assist with a smooth transition.
Thank you for adhering to the Covid-19 regulations by wearing a face mask. Signs with the QR code for check in have been placed at the gate entries. We know that tracing is far more effective when we all follow the process so please continue to use the QR code.
At the end of this month we will farewell Mrs Millie Gesch. Mille worked in the tuck-shop when her children attended Holy Spirit. She has been employed as a school officer since 1977 and has worked with many of our younger students.
Last Monday was the feast day of St Francis, the namesake of our current Pope. The work of St Francis, a man of poverty, a man of peace and a man who loved and protected creation is a model for Pope Francis. Throughout this month of October students will complete activities which focus on our role to support the poor and care for creation. Please let your child’s teacher know if you are available to assist with the Mini Fete on the afternoon of Friday, 15 October.
God bless
Geraldine
Welcome back everyone and I trust you enjoyed some time away from the school routines. Term 4 is such a busy term that we will blink and we will be talking about the end of the year. I would encourage you to continue to join us in the varied Holy Spirit community events throughout this term.
I would also like to congratulate 3 Year 6 students. Mia(6A) was part of the NQ Girls rugby League side that came second in the state at the recent championships in Townsville. The NQ side were only just defeated in the final minutes but we are so proud of Mia's achievements this year. Well Done. Eli(6B) and Atai(6B), both Year 6, also represented NQ in the Boys U11 rugby league team that claimed third in the state championships. Both boys played superbly and were part of an amazing team. Congratulations
Recently, we have launched the 'Spirit Way' design that a couple of Year 6 girls were inspirational in designing. Thank you to Emily(6C), Mala(6A) and Isabel(6A) for your creativity and enthusiasm.
I present to you, the 'Spirit Way'...
In Mark’s Gospel this Sunday, Jesus tells a rich young man what he must do to inherit eternal life. Jesus told him that he must know and obey the commandments and then must give away all his money and everything he owned. Jesus wanted the young man to know that God measures our wealth by our goodness and whether we are generous or loving towards others. As Christians, we are challenged to be shining witnesses of God’s love and mercy to all. This week at Holy Spirit, we value courage. Courage enables us to act in a brave way to go out of our way at times to help others. This week we ask our students to think and act on ways that they can show their courage and that with God’s protection and guidance, they have nothing to fear and can conquer anything.
October is Missions Month. The World Mission Month of October is a time when we can teach our children to respect people from other cultures and reach out to those people, particularly children who live in poverty. It is an opportunity for reflection, prayer and support for the missionary efforts of individuals, communities and the whole Church. This year, students across Australia are encouraged to learn about Thailand and the work of the Good Shepherd Sisters there, who through their Kindergarten Centre, are bringing about generational change to some of the poorest communities in Bangkok. It is a time to do something extraordinary for Mission through fundraising, advocacy and prayers.
When we look at the world at times, we can see that it is not very fair. Some people have lots of food. Some people don’t have enough. Some people have clean water in their homes. Some people have to walk a long way to collect water for their families. Catholic Missions gives hope to communities so that real changes can be made for people in need around the world. For more information please visit https://www.catholicmission.org.au/
Next Friday afternoon, our school will hold our Mini Fete where proceeds go to Missions. Classes will be sending information to families in the coming days on their stalls and how you can help. This is a great afternoon where we can all support a very worthy cause. Thank you everyone in advance for assisting with our Mini Fete.
God bless.
