- Our Mission Statement
On Monday our school captains Siara Bauer and Logan Wagner attended mass at Sacred Heart Cathedral to commence the celebrations for Catholic Education Week. The theme for this year is ‘A Spirited Tomorrow’.
During the mass, Year 12 students from secondary catholic colleges were awarded the Deus Caritas Est (God is Love) Award. The Deus Caritas Est Award is the most prestigious student award presented by Townsville Catholic Education. The recipients receive the award for their commitment to Christian living through how they interact and treat others.
Congratulations to past Holy Spirit students, Daniel McMahon (Ryan Catholic College) and Atticus D’Mello (Ignatius Park) who received the award in recognition of their effort in their respective colleges.

During the mass, Bishop Tim Harris described Catholic Education as an holistic education. Those fortunate enough to attend the Mulkadee Concert at the Entertainment Centre last Friday evening saw the extraordinary talent of the students who presented the ‘Wizard of Oz’. One of our Year 5 students described it as ‘ the best week ever’. Education today encompasses so much more than the prescribed curriculum.
Yesterday, a group of Year 5 students organised basketball activities at morning tea for Year 1 and Year 2. The initiative of one Year 5 student and the enthusiasm of his friends made quite a difference to our younger students. Moments like these illuminate student achievement and success. I am not sure which group was the happiest: the children shooting hoops or the group of Year 5 boys who were rewarded by the response from the students in Year 1 and Year 2!
There are many in our school community who contribute to the life of our school. Today at our liturgy for Catholic Education Week we especially acknowledge the work of parents, grandparents and staff members. .
Congratulations to: Sue Viviers, Ann Fisher, Christine Nash, John Kars, Claire Parker, Majella Purcell, Steve Hedger, Alice Calleja, Jane Aylward, Cherrie Pierce, Anne Mendiolea, Mary Kerrisk and Helen Connor.
I hope you will be able to join us for our closing activity for Catholic Education Week, the Colour Me Crazy Run on Sunday, 1 Aug.

“COLOUR ME CRAZY 2021”
The second running of our school community event, “COLOUR ME CRAZY” (fun run/obstacle course), will be held on August 1st from 10am. Registrations for this event will take place on the day from 9.30am (after Mass).
The course will begin in the small oval close to OSHC and travel around the school finishing back on the small oval. This is a fun event and no champions are crowned. You may walk, run, jog or skip your way around the course to celebrate our Catholic community that is Holy Spirit Catholic School. You do not need to be a ‘gladiator’ to complete our course. A sense of fun and enjoyment is the aim of this event.
BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL ROUTINES:
As we begin our new term, it is a great opportunity to remind ourselves of the routines to and from the school.
Gates open to the school at 7.45. There is no access into the school grounds before this time (not even through OSHC). If students arrive between 7.45 & 8am, they are to gather outside the Hall near the new administration building. At 8am, staff will supervise students in 2 areas: Bibi Goo for Prep-Yr 3 and the Hall for Yr4-6. At 8.15, students are dismissed from these areas to prepare for their day of learning opportunities. Gates are closed at 8.45am for the safety of our students and staff. Any visitors must now go through the front office to enter our school.
At the end of the day, students are encouraged to move promptly to the waiting areas: Hatchett St , Church pick up and Albert St. These 3 areas are supervised by staff to ensure a safe departure through the pick up zones. Staff are on hand to call family names at Hatchett St and the Church to make for a smooth transition through the pick up area. If you have lost your laminated sign, please contact the office for a new one.
Pick Up Areas
Our pick up areas in the afternoon are busy yet working well. This only happens when a few key areas are adhered to.
- Please stay in your vehicle and move up in the lines. Students need to get themselves in the car. If they need assistance, please park and come to the waiting area to collect them.
- Students need to enter the car via the door closest to the sidewalk and not walk around the car into the line of traffic
- Please discuss with your child the need to be prompt to the waiting areas when released from class. Staff are dismissing students at 2.50pm and students should immediately move to the waiting areas.
- Albert Street is still a fantastic option. Staff are on duty at the end of the service road and supervise students inside the double gates. Great option to think about.
Thank you for assisting to keep our students safe.
Get in the spirit
Paul Martin
Jesus says: “I am the living bread. And this bread comes to us by way of sacrifice.
The bread which I will give is my flesh, given for the life of the world.” In Sunday’s Gospel, the crowds approach Jesus asking how they can do the works of God. Jesus impresses upon them that the food that will give them eternal life is their belief in God, the gift of Jesus which empowers them to do the work of God through their generosity and good works. Each Sunday, we come together to listen to the Word of God in scripture and share the Eucharistic meal so we are strengthened and nourished to go out and do our best to live as God desires us to.
This week at Holy Spirit we value excellence. Having excellence means having high standards for yourself and having pride in what you do. As you all know, this week is Catholic Education Week. On Monday, our student leaders as well as 2 students who were altar servers, attended the Diocesan Mass presided by Bishop Tim. This morning at our Catholic Education Week Liturgy, we acknowledged a number of people from our school community who give so much helping students in their endeavour to achieve excellence. Happy Catholic Education Week everyone!
Thank you God for our minds.
May our minds understand and know.
May they help us learn and grow.
Thank you God for our minds.
Thank you God for our hearts.
May they be filled with love for all.
May they listen for your call.
Thank you God for our hearts.
Thank you God for our hands.
May our hands show love and care.
May they welcome, serve and share.
Thank you God for our hands.
We make this prayer in the name of Jesus our friend.
Amen
(Catholic Education Week Prayer for Early Years Students)
God bless
