Principal's Corner

Principal's Photo 2018

On Monday our school captains Siara Bauer and Logan Wagner attended mass at Sacred Heart Cathedral to commence the celebrations for Catholic Education Week.  The theme for this year is ‘A Spirited Tomorrow’.

During the mass, Year 12 students from secondary catholic  colleges were awarded the Deus Caritas Est (God is Love) Award.  The Deus Caritas Est Award is the most prestigious student award presented by Townsville Catholic Education.  The recipients receive the award for  their commitment to Christian living through how they interact and treat others.

Congratulations to past Holy Spirit students, Daniel McMahon (Ryan Catholic College) and Atticus D’Mello (Ignatius Park) who received the award in recognition of their effort in their respective colleges.

During the mass, Bishop Tim Harris described Catholic Education as an holistic education.  Those fortunate enough to attend the Mulkadee Concert at the Entertainment Centre last Friday evening saw the extraordinary talent of the students who presented the ‘Wizard of Oz’. One of our Year 5 students described it as ‘ the best week ever’.  Education today encompasses so much more than the prescribed curriculum.

Yesterday, a group of Year 5 students organised basketball activities at morning tea for Year 1 and Year 2.  The initiative of one Year 5 student and the enthusiasm of his friends made quite a difference to our younger students. Moments like these illuminate student achievement and success. I am not sure which group was the happiest: the children shooting hoops or the group of Year 5 boys who were rewarded by the response from the students in Year 1 and Year 2!

There are many in our school community who contribute to the life of our school. Today at our liturgy for Catholic Education Week we especially  acknowledge the work of  parents, grandparents and staff members. .

Congratulations to: Sue Viviers, Ann Fisher, Christine Nash, John Kars, Claire Parker, Majella Purcell, Steve Hedger, Alice Calleja, Jane Aylward, Cherrie Pierce, Anne Mendiolea, Mary Kerrisk and Helen Connor.

I hope you will be able to join us for our closing activity for Catholic Education Week, the Colour Me Crazy Run on Sunday, 1 Aug.

Challenge Games

Congratulations to our students participating in the Challenge Games this week.
The focus of The Challenge Games is to provide two days of fun, friendship and participation in a range of sport and fun activities, however the highlight for many will be the disco on Wednesday evening!

God bless,

Geraldine
