- Our Mission Statement
Author, Daniel Leary writes, ‘When the heart is grateful, the mind is healthy. When you appreciate who you are, enjoying the gifts within you and around you in your family, neighbourhood, nature, then the odds are you are in a good place responding in a balanced and positive way to the pain and wonder of your life’.
This year our staff members and students are involved in The Resilience Project. Throughout the project, students explore one of the principles of the program, gratitude– paying attention to what we have rather than worrying about what we don’t have.
The Resilience Project suggests parents can support the program and practise developing gratitude in children by asking:
- What three things went well for you today?
- Who is someone you feel grateful for? Why?
- What is something you are looking forward to tomorrow?
- What makes our home a special place?
These questions are useful for we the adults, as well as the children. As Daniel Leary says ‘When the heart is grateful, the mind is healthy’.
God bless

With the end of the term coming upon us quickly, it is a great opportunity to check your Compass details and logins. The report cards will be available via Compass in the final week of this term. If you need any assistance, please contact our friendly office ladies.
In recent weeks, we have had a few near misses in the car parks at pick up time. Please ensure you are following traffic signage and moving slowly throughout the car park as we have children moving about. Patience is a wonderful virtue and we need to continue to display this as a positive example to our students. Safety and Respect are just 2 of the qualities we teach when talking about "The Spirit Way"
Sunday is the Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ, Corpus Christi, and in the
Gospel we listen again to the story of the Last Supper. When we come together at Mass to share the Eucharist, which means “thanksgiving”, we remember the meal Jesus shared with his friends the night before he died when he broke bread and shared it with his disciples. We are nourished and strengthened to go out and live good lives. We encourage our students to do the best they can in everything they do.
This week at Holy Spirit we value compassion, meaning sympathetic pity and concern for the sufferings or misfortunes of others. Compassion gives us the ability to understand someone else's situation and the desire to take action to improve their lives. It is the quality that allows us to step outside of ourselves and see the circumstances of others. It supplies the will power to do what is necessary to make the world a more caring place. This week, we pray our students show compassion to those around them.
On Friday, we celebrated Holy Spirit Day. We were so lucky to have had Andrew Chinn join us for the day. Andrew shared his music across all grades in preparation for the concert at the end of the day. The children participated enthusiastically during our liturgy and concert. Thank you to all those who came along to join us for the liturgy and concert.
This Sunday, students will conclude their Sacramental Programme with a combined Mass. Over the last couple of months, we have worked closely with the children in preparing them for this special occasion. We keep all those students who will receive the Sacraments of Confirmation and First Eucharist this Sunday with the Holy Spirit Parish in our prayers this week.
Have a great week.
God bless.

DOES A TIME IN REWARD BAD BEHAVIOUR?
HOME / DOES A TIME IN REWARD BAD BEHAVIOUR?
Does a time in reward bad behaviour?
By Sarah Conway Posted May 30, 2021 In Self Regulation
Sarah is a psychologist, mama of 4 and the creator of Mindful Little Minds. She has over 10 years of experience working with children, adolescents and families experiencing mental health problems and has a special interest in anxiety disorders in children. In her spare time she enjoys hugging her kids, drinking coffee, and telling anyone who’ll listen how tired she is.
In traditional parenting circles, time outs are often recommended as a gentle discipline strategy. An alternative to physical punishment or yelling. But if you’ve been following me for any length of time, you would know that I strongly advocate for time ins over time outs. And this is an idea that many parents struggle with. They often ask me, “Isn’t a time in just rewarding my child’s bad behaviour?” And I understand. I truly do.
You have a child who has just been aggressive, or disruptive. Maybe they’ve broken something, done something you’ve asked them not to, yelled at you, called you a name, or hurt a sibling. And I’m asking you to bring them close to you. Sit with them. Give them a hug. Offer compassion and empathy. See things from their point of view. To offer them love and kindness at a time when they seem the least deserving of it. It’s hard to do. And it requires a big shift in the way we view our children and their behaviour.
For more information about co-regulation and safety in connection, please view the full article at Mindful Little Minds.
We are open Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 8am in the Hall.
Your support with donations of bread, spreads, vegemite, jam etc. (excluding peanut based spreads) would be appreciated.
