- Our Mission Statement
Last Friday, our students participated in the ANZAC Day Liturgy. The liturgy was capably led by this term’s School Captains, Callum Lindeberg and Emily Whitby. Other senior students also assisted throughout the liturgy and the respect from all students from Prep to Year 6 throughout the Ode and Last Post impressed all adults present.
On ANZAC Day, our students from Year Four to Year Six participated in the Dawn Service and the ANZAC Day March. It is difficult to find adequate words to describe how impressive the students were in the way they conducted themselves and demonstrated such a level of respect for this occasion. Our students can certainly take a bow!
Thank you to the parents who supported their child’s participation. It is not easy to find a park near The Strand at any time, let alone when there are thousands of participants and spectators.
We are just sixteen sleeps away from the fete! Your response to dodgers, and Coloured Clothes days has been outstanding. I hope you had a chance to declutter and find some items for the Trash ‘n Treasure Stall, always one of our most popular stalls.
The two critical areas where we need your help are workers on the night and items for the Cake Stall. Working on a stall is a great way to meet other members of our school community; grandparents, aunts and uncles are all welcome to assist on the night.
Our students are excited, our convenors are organised and I hope you are looking forward to this event.
I hope this long weekend will be a chance for you to enjoy our wonderful weather!
God bless
Geraldine
There is much excitement around this Friday as we test ourselves in the school cross country carnival and have a coloured clothes day for our Fete. The morning starts with our collection of "Trash and Treasure" items for our Fete. Have a search of your household and see if there are items that are in reasonable condition and pass these on to assist with our school Fete on May 14th. Students are allowed to wear coloured clothes as long as they are sunsafe and that they have joggers for the cross country. If students would like to wear their house colour as part of their coloured clothes, this is their choice but not compulsory.
Our cross country begins first up in the morning. Mr Place has arranged a challenging course and would welcome any parent support on the day to act as course marshalls. This is our first opportunity for 2021 for the Branagan Blues, the Arnold Reds and the Stephen Whites to go head to head for the bragging rights for the next 12 months. Looking forward to another community event to support our students and demonstrate fantastic sportsmanship.
Naplan is only 13 more sleeps and we are finalising our preparations. Please find attached our schedule for testing. If students miss a test, don't panic as we do have catch up sessions. Students cannot move onto the next test until the catch up test is complete. We are required to complete the tests in the following order:
Writing - Reading - Conventions of Language - Numeracy.‘I am the true vine…’ In Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus compares himself to a vine and we, the branches which bear the fruit of his love. Jesus is living and working in our lives, in our thoughts, our actions and our words by asking us to be kind and loving, ready to forgive, honest and generous. We are his body on Earth reaching out to others in love.
This week at Holy Spirit we value service. Service, by definition, means doing something for others. The motive for our service is supposed to be love. Our love for God is proved in our love for others, so the quality of our service is a direct reflection of our love for others. This week we pray for our students and family members to continue their kind acts towards others to have a positive influence on those around them.
Saturday 1 May - FEAST OF SAINT JOSEPH THE WORKER
We celebrate two feast days for Joseph: March 19 for Joseph the Husband of Mary and May 1 for Joseph the Worker. Saint Joseph is the model for all who work, because in his humble and simple work as a carpenter, he cared for the holy family and provided for the needs of Mary and Jesus. Through Saint Joseph, we can learn the importance of diligence and faithfulness in our daily life and work.
MAY, THE MONTH OF MARY: By tradition, the Catholic Church dedicates each month of the year to a certain devotion. In May, it is the Blessed Virgin Mary. This devotion arose among Jesuits in Rome in the late 18th century and quickly spread throughout the Western Church. By the time of Pope Pius IX's declaration of the dogma of the Immaculate Conception in 1854, it had become universal. There are several Marian feast days in May in honour of Mary, including Our Lady of Fatima, Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament (13th May), and Feast of Mary Help of Christians (24th May) and Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary (31st May).
God bless.

ANZAC Day .... a day to remember the landing at Gallipoli. Dawn services were attended all over Townsville and within the district which stirred all of us. Many of our students marched alongside our Veterans in the Parade stepping off from Strand Park and ending up at ANZAC Park. Our students did us proud by marching in step and having their uniforms spic and span.
Last Wednesday during our morning tea activity some of our defence students paused to remember this special day. Here are some lovely photos to share....

Following the March 4 Justice rallies, families have been urged to talk to their children about consent. Lacking confidence and unsure where to start, many parents have struggled to make headway in this area. If this sounds familiar, these ideas will help you make a start.
Webinar: Teaching young people about healthy relationships
In this webinar Collett Smart, a psychologist, qualified teacher and author gives parents the tools to build a strong relationship with their child where no topic is off-limits and they can come to them with any questions.
Skill-builder Guide: Relating
We learn many basic communication and conflict resolution skills within our family. We take these skills into the school ground, the workplace, and into our own families and all our future relationships. It’s therefore worth reflecting on the type of communication and problem-solving skills that are on display in your family.
This guide includes communication and conflict resolution skills to teach your children that will help them maintain healthy relationships not just within your family, but also with other people.
