- Our Mission Statement
Over the last few weeks, I have had the privilege of working with the Year 5 cohort discussing leadership for 2021 at Holy Spirit Catholic School. We discussed qualities of leadership and what that might look like at our school. They participated in their leadership activities and have voted. The short list of nominees presented a short speech to the Administration Team this week and I was inspired by the amount of enthusiasm and energy that all the nominees presented and what their vision is for our school community in 2021.
I was proud of each of the students for their dedication to being organised, and for the care they had taken to really think about what they would bring to the role of School Captain. Between school and the family unit, we work together to nurture and exemplify leaders with integrity.
It gives me great pleasure to announce our School Captains for 2021 are:
Giann Moody Moxon, Callum Lindeberg, Logan Wagner, Eli Groves, Calliope Lazaredes, Emily Whitby, Siara Bauer and Lexi Greenway. Congratulations!
RITE OF PASSAGE
Next week is the Rite of Passage and awards night. This is a night to celebrate our achievements and to send our Year 6 students on their next adventure in their academic career.

Acting Assistant to the Principal - Admin
This Sunday is the first Sunday of Advent (advent means coming) and marks the beginning of a period of preparation for the celebration of the birth of Christ, our Saviour, at Christmas. Jesus said to his disciples: ‘Be on your guard, stay awake, for you do not know when the time will come.’ We should watch in the same way as those apostles: looking out for each other and helping each other, watching for Christ in each other, in the poor, in the sick, in the hungry and those in need. We watch for Christ not just as individuals, but as part of a community, his Church. We encourage everyone, especially our students, to look out for each other, share and celebrate each other’s achievements and take a giant step towards ‘Peace on Earth’ starting in our own hearts and community.
This week at Holy Spirit we value generosity which we know as the quality of being kind and giving to others. It is a quality that is a lot like unselfishness. Someone showing generosity is happy to give time, money, food or kindness to people in need. When we show generosity, we give away things or money or put others before ourselves. This week we pray that our students and families recognise the needs of others and be generous toward others, especially those who need our help. A great way to help those in need and make a difference in our own community is to support the St Vincent de Paul Christmas Appeal. Last week we held a coloured clothes day and asked children to donate items for the Christmas Hamper. Our hampers will be presented at our Christmas Liturgy next week at our Christmas Liturgy. Thank you to all our families for your generosity.
This morning, our Year 4 to 6 students attended Mass with Fr John. As we approach the end of the school year for 2020, we came together to celebrate by giving thanks to God for all that has been. This year has been like no other in our recent history and has thrown up many challenges, obstacles and difficulties. However, although the year has been difficult, during our celebration today, we were grateful for all the unexpected gifts that 2020 has brought us.
God bless.

Help kids cope with summer storms, floods, fires.....and MORE!
It’s been a big year for dramatic news, and children (and even parents) may feel anxious or distressed as summer storm and cyclone season approaches.
The Triple P – Positive Parenting Program can help you support your child’s coping skills and resilience in the face of natural disasters. Here are some simple tips:
- Encourage a sense of being calm and prepared
- Keep the emphasis on a positive, capable outlook
- Help children understand, accept and deal with their feelings
- Model ways to deal with strong emotions
- Encourage realistic thinking rather than “imagining the worst”.
Read more in this Triple P blog: https://www.triplep-parenting.net.au/qld-uken/blog-and-more/blogs-and-news/post/recovering-after-natural-disasters-means-dealing-with-emotions-too/
Triple P is free state-wide thanks to the Queensland Government – visit www.triplep-parenting.net.
Please note, there will be NO breakfast program this Friday (27th November) due to the swimming carnival.
Next week it will only be provided on Tuesday 1st December.
Thank you.
16 Days of Activism: Donate toiletries to support local women in need
16 Days of Activism: FREE Yoga sessions
DCO will also be offering free yoga sessions during this event at the Community Information Centre in Flinders St on Thursday 03 Dec 20.
Why Yoga?
Yoga moves you from the sympathetic nervous system to the parasympathetic nervous system, or from fight-or-flight to rest-and-digest. With yoga you may experience less anxiety and enter into a more relaxed state that is in your control. The practice of yoga enables you to understand yourself and cultivate a more nonjudgmental relationship with yourself, whilst building a greater sense of self-trust and worth. Through the practice of yoga you can become more confident and develop a greater sense of self.
Sessions will run as follows. Click on link below to register for sessions
Session 1 (9 – 10am): https://www.cictownsville.com.au/training-session/come-try-yoga-practicing-self-care/

Shout out for RAAF Base Townsville families: Register for 2020 Xmas Drive
2020 has been a difficult year for many and unfortunately the RAAF Base Townsville Christmas Treat has fallen victim to COVID-19 and the current restrictions.
Rest assured while the Corona Virus may have hampered travel and crippled airlines, the Reindeer Express is still running as per usual and Santa has confirmed to the RAAF Base Townsville Welfare Committee that he will be visiting the base this year. Although restrictions mean Santa will not be stopping for tea he will be delivering gifts to the boys and girls.
Please see flyer for details and the registration of a gift.
