- Our Mission Statement

We begin moving in next week and they will be operational starting Term 4.
This week is Child Protection Week.
At Holy Spirit, we continue to work with our students around being and feeling safe and being able to identify people in their lives that they can turn to when they need to talk. I would ask families to have this conversation with their children and continue to create a safe environment for our kids.
As a part of our Rewards Day, our students had the opportunity to experience, for some, their first dance party, Rocking the Tropics. It was an exciting event that brought together students to celebrate their hard work and achievements..
The dance party was held in the Hall, which was transformed into a colourful and vibrant scene. The students were dressed in tropical colours and the atmosphere was filled with energy and excitement.
Each Dance Party was organised by the year-level staff, who organised games and music that kept the students entertained. They finished their Dance Party with Zooper Doopers.
Year 5 & 6 had their Disco of the same theme, in the evening. This year they had a professional DJ with a superb playlist and not forgetting the smoke machine. Ms Bengoa hosted some terrific games, that kept us all entertained.
Students of all ages were able to showcase their dance moves and socialise with their peers in a safe and supervised environment. It was a great opportunity for them to let loose and have fun after weeks of hard work and dedication.
Overall, the dance party was a huge success and received positive feedback from both students and staff. It was an excellent way to reward the students for their achievements and motivate them to continue striving for excellence in their academic and personal lives and to show Our SPIRIT Way.
Have a wonderful break from lunchboxes and hopefully you will get a chance to enjoy this gorgeous Spring weather whilst your children are on school holidays.
I will see you upon your safe return to Term 4.

In this week’s Gospel, we hear the words: ‘For where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them’ (Matthew 18:15-20). When we meet to pray, we come together as one family and Jesus joins us in our prayer. To have a good relationship with God means we must become a truly loving and caring person as part of a loving and caring community of people united in Christ. As a community, we have a responsibility for each other's well-being and show compassion to those around us.
This week at Holy Spirit we value compassion, meaning sympathetic pity and concern for the sufferings or misfortunes of others. Compassion gives us the ability to understand someone else's situation and the desire to take action to improve their lives. It is the quality that allows us to step outside of ourselves and see the circumstances of others. It supplies the willpower to do what is necessary to make the world a more caring place. This week, we pray our students show compassion to those around them.
Recently, a number of our Year 6 Mini Vinnies students participated in our Homelessness Awareness Night. We were joined by Stephen Gasparini, Youth Engagement and Development Officer for the Townsville Diocese, St Vincent de Paul Society Branch. Stephen shared information about Australia’s Homeless population. Throughout the night, the students participated in activities that raised awareness about the misfortune of others. Thank you to all our families for supporting the night by donating much needed items for people in our community. Your compassion and generosity will be very much appreciated.
In addition to donated items from our Homelessness Awareness Night, after passing on our donation of bedding items purchased using money from our Cash for Cans, we received the following email to thank our school community:
Thanks to Holy Spirit and Stephen Gasparini from the S.V. de P. Society, our refugees were the recipients of the great lot of blankets and pillows that you collected on our behalf. It was such a great gift and at such a perfect time, thank you Holy Spirit. There are a great number of new families arriving every week at the moment. Finding accommodation and household items for them all is challenging so you can well imagine what a thrill it was for us and them to have such lovely new blankets to give them. Most of them I delivered myself but I was getting aware of the need for speed so I took them over to TMSG for distribution also. They also expressed their thanks. With our very best wishes and thanks to your school.

This Friday, 8th September, is the special feast of the birth of Mary, the mother of Jesus. We honour Mary as a Spirit-filled person who listened to God speaking to her. Mary showed the fruits of the Spirit in the way she lived her life. She can inspire us all and show us how to be patient, kind, joyful and hope-filled people so that we too can live out Jesus’ message.
Loving God,
You love us and want us to be happy.
Help us to use the gifts of the Spirit like Mary did.
May we be inspired by the qualities Mary showed and look to her as a
model of kindness and goodness, patience and peace, love and joy.
We ask this prayer through Jesus, Your Son.
Amen.
God bless.

Support children online this National Child Protection Week
National Child Protection Week is happening across Australia from Sunday 3 to Saturday 9 September 2023. It’s an opportunity to recognise and promote the safety and wellbeing of Australian children with the message that ‘Every child, in every community, needs a fair go’.
To support National Child Protection Week, we have resources tailored for parents and carers to help your child feel safe, supported, and connected online.
Protecting teens from rising sexual extortion scams
eSafety is seeing an increase in reports of sexual extortion, particularly for boys aged 15-17. Sexual extortion or 'sextortion' is a form of blackmail where someone threatens to share a nude or sexual image or video of you unless you give in to their demands.
As parents and carers, open conversations can help prevent sexual extortion and help your child recover if it happens to them. Talk to your teens to help equip them with knowledge, let them know they aren't alone, and remind them there's always help available.
Every conversation counts. Talk to young people about sexual extortion.
An interactive exhibition in Australia's capital
eSafety is proud to be part of the Spirit of Service exhibition, a project by the Australian Public Service (APS) that recognises the efforts of 48 agencies important to our government's operations.
The interactive APS exhibition, featuring a large photographic mural with 200 employees, reveals the passionate individuals behind our public service and illuminates a world of potential careers. It's an engaging way for young minds to envision a future shaping our nation.
The Exhibition opens on 31 August 2023 and runs for seven years at Senate Undercroft at the Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House.

In this edition of SchoolTV - RESPECTFUL RELATIONSHIPS
Fostering a nurturing environment of respectful relationships within your family holds the key to not only harmonious living, but also improved academic outcomes for your children. As parents and caregivers, embracing the art of teaching children about respect at a young age sets the stage for a lifetime of healthy interactions and empathetic understanding. It will help cultivate a positive environment where communication flourishes, conflicts are resolved constructively, and bonds are fortified.
Teaching children to respect themselves and others will open up avenues for both personal growth and academic achievement. Fostering an environment where respect is not just a word, but a practiced behaviour, will empower young people with essential life skills. Effective communication, active listening, and the art of compromise, will provide your child with a solid foundation that will transcend family interactions and help them collaborate effectively with peers, teachers and the broader community.
Equipping children with an understanding of healthy versus unhealthy relationships is an important aspect of their development. It will guide them to make informed choices, foster positive connections, and set boundaries that contribute to their emotional wellbeing. Understanding the nuances between healthy and unhealthy relationships provides children with the essential tools to navigate their social world, build self-esteem, and cultivate meaningful relationships.
In this edition of SchoolTV, learn how to empower young people in healthy interactions to embrace differences and forge connections that honour their self-worth.
We hope you take time to reflect on the information offered in this edition of SchoolTV and we always welcome your feedback. If you have any concerns about your child, please speak with your child’s teacher or seek medical or professional help.
