Book Week
Since 1945, the Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA) has brought together children and books to celebrate Book Week and shine a light on Australian authors and illustrators.
Book Week 2022 is a time for schools, libraries, booksellers, authors, illustrators and children to celebrate Australian children's literature.
The Book Week 2022 theme "Dreaming With Eyes Open" acknowledges Australia's First Nations People and their rich story based culture. Darug woman, Jasmine Seymour, won the CBCA New Illustrator Award in 2020 for her beautiful picture book 'Baby Business' and Jasmine produced all of the poster artwork in Dreaming With Eyes Open too.
Today, we celebrated Book Week with a parade! Below is a snapshot of some of the awesome costumes children and staff wore to promote Book Week 2022.
Health – Time Out Requirements
Some medical conditions require exclusion from school to prevent the spread of infectious diseases among children and staff. This poster provides information on the recommended minimum exclusion periods for infectious conditions and will assist us to meet the requirements of the Public Health Act.

Best wishes

Time to polish those shoes and brush the hair as it is photo time. Next week, MSP Photography will be taking our school photos. Students will be required to wear their formal uniform for their class photo. A copy of the timetable and code of dress are attached.

In Jesus’ ministry, meals shared with friends and followers often formed the backdrop to some important teachings of Jesus about the values of the Kingdom of God. Jesus showed no favouritism but welcomed all in the community, particularly the needy, to share the meal. This is a practice which is carried on today when we join together around the altar to listen to God’s words and share the Eucharistic meal at Sunday Mass. In Luke’s Gospel (Luke 14: 1.7-14), Jesus reminds His listeners that everyone must act with humility and see themselves as the servants of the community rather than those whom the community might feel honoured to serve. Around the Lord’s Table, there is a state of equality, for all are equally there by God’s invitation, grace, and mercy.
This week at Holy Spirit Catholic School, we value respect. Having respect for someone means you think good things about who a person is or how he or she acts. We reinforce that showing respect to someone is to act in a way that shows they care about others feelings and well-being. This week we pray that our students show respect for others by thinking and acting in a way that shows others they care about their feelings and their well-being, to see a need and do something about it.
God bless.

Breakfast Program
Lunchtime Activities
eSafety has released new resources to help parents and carers from all backgrounds protect their families online.
The new videos and advice sheets from the Online Safety for Every Family suite of resources covers how to:
- get started with social media
- enjoy safer online gaming
- help your child if they are bullied online.
To make sure more families can start a conversation with their children about online safety, the information comes in multiple languages - English, Simplified Chinese, Arabic, Vietnamese, Tamil and Dari.
Webinar: Online sexual harassment and image-based abuse
Did you know almost a third of reports made to eSafety about image-based abuse relate to people under 18?
While it can be devastating for a young person to have nude or intimate images of themselves shared without their consent, getting the right support can reduce the harm.
eSafety’s parent guide to online sexual harassment and image based-abuse webinar covers how to report image-based abuse and where to get support if your child experiences abuse online. Register now for the last sessions in 2022.
Use parental controls to keep your family safe online
Many games, apps and social media sites now come with parental controls, with Snapchat the latest to launch an in-app Family Center to support young people to have safer experiences online.
eSafety’s parental controls video helps parents and carers understand the benefits and limitations, the different controls you can access and what safety settings to use when there are no parental controls available.
Mini Vinnies
Thursday 1st September
Each year, the Year 6 Mini Vinnies students are given the opportunity to participate in activities that highlight the fact of homelessness in the community.
This year, to comply with COVID-19 regulations and ensure this event retains its significance, students will be given the opportunity to engage their individual perspective from a position of opportunity. They will be invited to consider the issues of homelessness and associated stigma, as they participate in practical activities that prompt discernible conversation around possible scenarios and thinking laterally, outside of their own personal experience and what is considered the norm in society.
While this event will not require students to stay overnight, it will create an experience that will inform and direct learning, outside the classroom context. There will be a representative from St. Vincent De Paul directing activities that provoke students to consider homelessness as a reality. Raising awareness is a tangible voice for homelessness and generates compassion and understanding towards those who are less fortunate in society.
In previous years, children have been asked to donate items that are needed in our own community. This year, we have been advised that personal care products such as deodorant, soap, razors, toothpaste, tooth brush, small nail clippers, short comb and hair brushes are in demand at present.
In response to this need, we ask that students donate at least one toiletry item and would also like to extend this invitation to the wider school community, as an action of collective outreach to others. To support this event, please place your donations into the blue box, which can be located in the administration office or alternatively bring them to the classroom for collection.
Please note that the pictures below are only examples of what is needed. Thank you in advance for supporting the collective outreach efforts of the Year 6 students and the Holy Spirit school community.
In this edition of SchoolTV - DIET & NUTRITION
We all know that diet and nutrition is vital to your child’s development and growth, but are you aware of the effects it has on your child’s brain development and how it can impact their academic achievement?
In this era of convenience, it is easy to reach for pre-packaged and processed foods to cope with busy schedules. However, these foods are usually packed full of sugar and salt which can have adverse health effects. Making a habit of reading food labels can help reduce the risks. It can also help to stabilise your child’s energy, improve their mood, maintain a healthy weight and improve their general wellbeing.
In this edition of SchoolTV, parents will discover practical advice for teaching your kids about the benefits of incorporating a healthy diet and good nutrition.
We hope you take time to reflect on the information offered in this edition of SchoolTV and we always welcome your feedback. If you have any concerns about your child, please contact your child’s teacher for further information or seek medical or professional help.
