- Our Mission Statement
Congratulations to all who assisted with our School Athletics Carnival at the Sports Reserve. It is two years since our students had this experience – a first for Prep and Year One students!
Our PE teacher, Mr. Brenton Place and the Sports Committee spent many hours preparing for this event. From the transport of students and equipment to the organisation of the timetable and coordination of events, many hours of preparation went into this occasion. I hope the late edition of this week’s newsletter will provide you with some of the highlights of the day.
If you have driven along Hatchett Street in the past week, you may have noticed that apart from the landscaping, the Administration Block is almost complete. Over the past six years, we have been in a continuous planning and building phase so we are looking forward to the completion of this building project and the removal of temporary fencing!
Since 2018, twenty new learning spaces, the Administration Block and staffroom have been constructed. Thank you for your patience and flexibility throughout this time. Thank you also to the Holy Spirit School Board, parents and staff members who lobbied for funds, discussed plans and patiently packed and unpacked as we relocated on several occasions.
Semester One reports are available via Compass, please contact the school office if you do not have a Compass login.
Thank you for your assistance throughout this term. Events such as the Fete, Fun Run, Athletics Carnival and NAIDOC celebration would not be possible without your support. That is the Strength in the Spirit!
I hope you have some time to recharge and relax over the next two weeks or at least a break from the routines of school lunches, uniforms and homework.
God bless
Geraldine
New building - Term 3 will see us operating out of the new administration building. Don't you just love it when a plan comes together? This also allows us to maintain student safety by being able to lock access into our school during school times. If families need to visit the school during school hours, they will need to come via the front office and our lovely ladies there will assist you. We would like to thank Simon Bell Construction and Troy Martin from i4 Architecture for working with us to produce such an amazing workspace.
Before school supervision begins at 8am in Bibi Goo Yumba and the Hall. Gates open from 7.45am and this will be important to remember as we operate from the new building. Please be aware the OSHC gate is open for OSHC families but does not allow access into our school from Term 3. The Hatchett St gate will open at 7.45am.
Well done to all our families for surviving Term 2. What a term it has been. Thank you to the many families, staff and students who continue to display the "Spirit Way". From ANZAC DAY in week 1 to Cross Country, Athletics, Sacramental Program, NAPLAN Holy Spirit Day, Stem Forensics and of course the Fete. Without the support of our families and staff, our students would not receive the opportunities they get. Thank you for continued support of our school community.
Have a safe and enjoyable holiday and we will see you on July 12.
Get in the Spirit!
Paul Martin
There are some moments in life when the situations around us and the conditions of
life leave us in a state of desolation and despair. In such moments of life, God is always there with us. The Gospel reading on Sunday presents to us two miracles of our Lord Jesus Christ, the raising of Jairus’ daughter from the dead and the healing of the woman suffering from haemorrhage. In each of these miracles, we see the face of humanity collectively and individually plagued by one problem or the other. It can never be overemphasised that as our faces are different, so also are our problems and challenges and pains. One central message we must take from the Gospel narrative is the fact that God remains the only true and sure source of the solution to all of our problems, challenges, difficulties, pains and sufferings. From Jairus and this woman, we are invited to learn to bring our problems to God in humility, even when they seem most impossible because “with man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God” (Mk 10:27).
This week at Holy Spirit, we value stewardship. The earth and all life on it are part of God’s creation and we are called to respect this gift. We are responsible for taking care of the world we live in and for sharing all the wonders and resources the earth gives us. This week we pray our students be stewards of God’s creation.
I came across “A Creed for Those Who Have Suffered” by Roy Campanella, who picks up the complexity of our prayers and as we approach the end of the term, it gives us good food for thought.
I asked God for strength, that I might achieve.
I was made weak, that I might learn humbly to obey…
I asked for health, that I might do great things.
I was given infirmity, that I might do better things…
I asked for riches, that I might be happy.
I was given poverty, that I might be wise…
I asked for power, that I might have the praise of men.
I was given weakness, that I might feel the need of God…
I asked for all things, that I might enjoy life.
I was given life, that I might enjoy all things…
I got nothing I asked for – but everything I had hoped for.
Almost despite myself, my unspoken prayers were answered…
Have a great week and a relaxing break.
God bless

Congratulations to the Stephen Whites for winning this year’s Athletics Carnival. House spirit was alive and well as students cheered for their team mates in the various events. Many thanks to all of our staff and volunteers who contributed to the success of the carnival. Congratulations to all students involved for their fantastic participation and competition.
A full gallery of photos can be found on our School Facebook Page.
We now look forward to the Interschool Athletics Carnival on Thursday, 19 August. Selected students will be notified in Term 3 Week 1.
Yours faithfully, and in sport

Northern School Sport Selection
Congratulations to Logan for his selection in the U12 NQ School Touch Football Team. Congratulations to Giann for his selection in the NQ School Rugby Union Team. The students now have the opportunity to attend the State Championships next term. Well done and good luck!
The NCCD (Nationally Consistent Collect ion of Data) takes place every year. The NCCD is a collection that counts:
- the number of school students receiving an adjustment or ‘help’ due to disability
- the level of adjustment they are receiving to access education on the same basis as other students.
Students are counted in the NCCD if they receive ongoing adjustments at school due to disability. This ‘help’ allows them to access education on the same basis as a child without disability. The NCCD uses the definition of disability in the Disability Discrimination Act 1992.
Schools provide this information to education authorities.
For further information click here.
The helpline is available 24/7 and is staffed by qualified human services professionals including social workers and psychologists.
The NAIDOC 2021 theme – Heal Country! – calls for all of us to continue to seek greater protections for our lands, our waters, our sacred sites and our cultural heritage from exploitation, desecration, and destruction.
Country that is more than a place and inherent to our identity.
Country that we speak about like a person, sustaining our lives in every aspect - spiritually, physically, emotionally, socially, and culturally.
NAIDOC 2021 invites the nation to embrace First Nations’ cultural knowledge and understanding of Country as part of Australia's national heritage and equally respect the culture and values of Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islanders as they do the cultures and values of all Australians.
We are open Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 8am in the Hall.
Your support with donations of bread, spreads, vegemite, jam etc. (excluding peanut based spreads) would be appreciated.
