APRE News

This week our Holy Spirit value is responsibility. There are many different ways we talk about and use the word responsibility. There’s being responsible, taking responsibility, acting responsibly and having responsibilities. They are all related to doing the things we are supposed to do and accepting the positive or negative outcome of our actions. Being responsible means our students: think before they act; think about how their actions affect others, think before they speak; are accountable; are reliable; try to fix their mistakes; and most importantly, keep trying. This week we pray that our
students try to be more responsible doing the things they are expected to do by being dependable, keeping promises and honouring any commitments they may have.

Next Tuesday, 25 th February, is Shrove Tuesday. In ancient times, this was a day of celebration, when there were processions and people feasted together before they entered a time of fasting and prayer during Lent. Today, many still follow this tradition by eating pancakes. This is associated with the ancient custom of eating the last supplies of milk, flour and eggs before the beginning of Lent. This year the Caritas Project Compassion Appeal Launch which will be taking place in Mt Isa.

Lent also begins next week with Ash Wednesday on the 26 th February. Our Grade 3 to 6 students will be attending Mass in the Church with Fr John at 9am and our P-2 students will have a Liturgy in the Lynch Family Hall at 8:40am. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Project Compassion

Project Compassion is Caritas Australia's annual Lenten fundraising and awareness-raising appeal.  Millions of Australians come together in solidarity with the world's poor to help end poverty, promote justice and uphold dignity.  This year’s theme is “Let’s Go Further, Together”.  Over the coming weeks, a feature story from the Caritas Australia website will be shared.  We encourage our families to put your compassion into action this Lent through your prayer, fasting and almsgiving by supporting Project Compassion.  Each family will receive a Project Compassion box and/or a set of envelopes for their donations or you can donate online via their website at
