Safeguarding Update

The Diocesan Safeguarding Coordinator continues to meet regularly with Parish Priests and Administrators, Safeguarding Representatives and Pastoral Councils to ensure the Catholic National Safeguarding Standards are being applied across all ministries.  Parishioners are encouraged to provide feedback on our safeguarding processes and to visit the safeguarding webpage  www.tsv.catholic.org.au/safeguarding  Your feedback, via the webpage, is directly submitted to the Diocesan Safeguarding Coordinator. You can also speak directly with your Parish Priest or Safeguarding Representative if you prefer.

Your involvement and support to our parishes is critical to ensure we put into action, our commitment to protect our most vulnerable and to create a safer environment for everyone. This includes how we apply our safeguarding policy in ministry and how we manage risks.

For more information regarding the Safeguarding policy and our processes, please contact Mr Craig Brereton on 4726 3264 or cbrereton@tsv.catholic.org.au

National Prayer Campaign for Drought

The Catholic Bishops of Australia have announced a National Prayer Campaign for Drought to take place during November. People across the country are encouraged to pray for the gift of rain, for people affected by the drought and to provide practical support, where possible. The Bishops note that large parts of the country are directly affected by the drought, but the impact is national – and so should the response be national. Access resources and find out more at: www.catholic.org.au/drought

Ordination of Emene Kelemete

Bishop Tim Harris would like to invite you to attend the Ordination to the Priesthood of Deacon Emene Kelemete on Thursday 31st of October from 7pm. The Ordination will take place at the Edmund Rice Hall at Ignatius Park College, Ross Rover Road. There is ample parking in the Holy Spirit Parish Car Park, Ignatius Park College car park and on Ross River Road and Albert Street. There will be light refreshments afterwards. All are welcome to attend.

Understanding the Rite of Ordination

First Mass: For a long time, the first Mass offered by the newly ordained was celebrated the day after their ordination, with the Bishop as the only Celebrant at the Ordination Mass. With the reinstitution of concelebration after the Second Vatican Council, a rich symbol of the College of Priests gathered around their Bishop at the altar, the newly ordained priest now acts as a concelebrant at the Mass of Ordination and this then becomes their “First Mass” as a priest. Either the next day or in the coming days, the newly ordained priest will celebrate a Mass in Thanksgiving for the gift of ordination and for the gift of so many people who have brought him thus far.
