Principal's Corner

Principal's Photo 2018

On Sunday we celebrate Father's Day. Research, articles and books, all provide accounts and studies on the 'power of fathers'. Many articles discuss the different parenting styles of mothers and fathers. While there is a range of studies, observation of significant males in the lives of children speaks for itself.

Today the Prep D fathers, grandfathers and significant male role models became ninjas with their ninja children and grandchildren. Some a little tentative at first, joined their child in the challenge of the ropes course. The preps while a little more agile enjoyed the companionship and fun of being with these role models. Activities such as these are how both boys and girls learn about play and risk-taking.

According to an article from Focus on Family good men:

  • Do things with their children, are present, and are interested
  • Don’t hold back in showing love to their children
  • Try to set a good example for how good men behave
  • Apologise for their own imperfect behaviour, when needed
  • Set an example with their partner of how good relationships work
  • Are playful and silly
  • Provide a balance of love and limits
  • Are physical with their children – showing affection, play wrestles, giving piggybacks and tickles  to their younger children, playing sport together
  • And, yes, they need to be embarrassing as well - such as wearing a yellow headband and pretending to be a ninja!

There are varying ideas on what makes good fathers. You may have a few things to add to this list, you only have to observe.

Children have a huge head start in life when they are surrounded by love. Thank you to the many fathers and men who undertake the 'fathering role', we appreciate your contribution to the students in our school.

Have a wonderful Father's Day.

God bless
