Principal's Corner

Principal's Photo 2018

We are all born with a sense of wonder. Why is the sky blue? How do we treat a common cold? Will there ever be a cure for cancer?

This week is Science Week. National Science Week occurs each year in August, Science Week aims to encourage a wider interest in science.

Young children are great scientists because they are curious and ask why?  According to Dr. Kate Highfield, Early Childhod Australia, young children naturally engage with scientific concepts and processes in their play and as they explore the world.

In the home, especially the kitchen, there are many opportunities for parents to foster an interest in science. The chemical reaction when mixing bicarb soda with vinegar always creates interest as well as being an eco friendly way to clean drains!

Today our Adopt-a-Cowboy, Javid Bowen, spent time working on science activities with 4B. After planting seeds, Year 2 have watched in awe as their plant grows taller each day.

This Friday, some Year 5 students will visit St Margaret Mary's to participate in Mission to the Moon activities, while fellow Year 5 students explore the Paluma rainforest, a great outdoor classroom!

Science Week might just be the catalyst required to spark your child's interest in science.

The Holy Spirit Parents and Friends' Association has organised two guest speakers for Friday morning. This is a great opportunity to hear Dr Jo Lukins, an outstanding psychologist, recognised within her field and the broader community as a professional who makes a difference in the lives of others and clinical psychologist Dr. Tracey Walker.

The one hour presentation commences at 7am and supervision for primary students will be available.
