This week, Principals in our Catholic Schools came together for the Term 4 conference and discussed the many elements impacting schools including staffing.  It was an enlightening couple of days as we discussed budgets, enrolments, future directions of our Catholic Schools. These are exciting times and I look forward to sharing with you our future plans and goals.

Today, I attended the Townsville Catholic Education's School Law Conference via Zoom. This event provides some advice to our school leaders and Safe Persons about the role of schools in some key areas including "Duty of Care."

One area of concern for me is the drop off of students in the morning, particularly when the gates are not open. What has been seen in recent times is the drop off and leaving of students outside gates when staff are not on duty/not the gates are not open yet. 

The school gates are open at 7.50 in the morning and supervision is provided in 2 key areas at 8am. If students arrive between 7.50am and 8am, students are to sit outside the Hall as there are staff in the vicinity to assist in the case of any emergency. No student is to be moving about the school grounds and DEFINITELY no students to be left by families outside gates without supervising them themselves. We are all responsible for the safety of our students.
