Principal's Corner
Dear Parents and Carers
Welcome back to the 2024 school year. Thank you for attending our Open Classroom Expo. We had lots of families meeting staff, getting signed up for Instrumental or volunteering at the tuckshop. A great afternoon was had.
Thank you for your assistance with uniforms, shoes, hats. It was awesome watching those red (and teal) hats arrive on Monday morning through the gates. Lots of smiling faces and even some nervous ones but a great start was had. Thanks also to 7 News for promoting the start of the school year at Holy Spirit Catholic School. See our Facebook page if you missed it.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank a particular staff member for the appearance of the grounds. Greg, the groundsman, has been working tirelessly while Matt (other groundsman) has been laid up unwell. Greg has attended to mowing, weeds, maintenance and rubbish as a lone 'warrior'. He even took the time during his holiday break to mow the school grounds as we continued to receive constant rain. That back oval took some work. He has done an amazing job to get our grounds to where they are. Well done Greg!
Term 1 School Captains
Congratulations to Charlotte and Kye who will work alongside our Leadership Team this term to be the voice of our students and assist as required. All our student leaders for 2024 will be inducted at our Beginning of Year liturgy next Wednesday morning.
New Assembly Roster
To maximise learning and teaching time we are trialling a new Assembly roster and routine. Assemblies will be held on Friday mornings from 8.40am – 9.10am.
- If a decision is made THE DAY BEFORE to close Catholic schools the following day:
- The Principal will, where possible contact all parents/carers by note and/or SMS and social media. This information will also be posted on the TCE website and social media channels.
- If a decision is made OVERNIGHT to close Catholic schools the following day:
- TCE and EQ will issue advice to all local radio stations, which will broadcast this advice from 7:00am or earlier if possible. Updates will also be posted on the TCE website and social media channels.
- If a decision is made to close schools in a particular area, then all schools in that area (both Catholic and State) will close, irrespective of their individual circumstance.
- If a decision is made DURING SCHOOL HOURS to close Catholic schools IMMEDIATELY:
- Information will be communicated to parents/carers wherever possible (SMS, social media, websites), local radio stations and school transport companies (bus and ferry).
- When severe storm/cyclone warnings are active, parents are urged to listen to their local radio station to keep informed.
- Please note, each Principal will ensure all students have a safe means of getting home and that appropriate supervision is available once they arrive home.
Happy Days
Paul Martin
