Last week, some of the Year 6 Mini Vinnies and Year 3 Recorder students went to visit the residents at Brooklea Retirement Village. This term time activity is now in its 11th year and is always a popular activity with the students and residents!
Before the students participated in the afternoon activities, long time resident and Vincentian Una King shared “The Goose Story” with them. This story is a favourite with Una and the students, as its simplicity highlights the importance of teamwork and community, which is something we work towards in daily life.
We would like to thank Trish and the residents for sharing much more than afternoon tea and stories, with the students each year. The generosity of generations giving time to each other is the gift that is precious! Please enjoy a few photos taken last week that emphasise our gratitude, in having this connection with the residents at Brooklea.
Parents want their kids to behave well, yet despite their best efforts to raise well-behaved, respectful kids, children and young people will make mistakes and mess up.
By viewing indiscretions as mistakes rather than misbehaviour parents open the door to meaningful communication that helps children take responsibility for the way they behave.
Young Leaders Program
The Young Leaders Program helps teachers to create leadership skills in young people. It incorporates ideas, tools and activities to help train students in the final two years of primary school and those who are given specific leadership roles.
There are three parts to the program: personal leadership, public leadership, and induction and mentoring. The program is based on five building blocks of presentation skills, responsibility, organisation, teamwork and emotional intelligence. It is provided as a kit containing easy to follow teachers manuals, student workbooks, classroom posters and activity cards. It is easy to run, fits easily into the existing curriculum, and caters for the whole class.
