Principal's Corner

Principal's Photo 2018

Have you thought about the weather forecast for this week? Perhaps considered the nutrition of a meal or even attended a medical appointment?

This week is National Science Week. National Science Week is Australia’s annual celebration of science and technology. This year’s theme for Science Week is Food: Different by Design.

Throughout the week our students have been engaged in a variety of activities. Prep to Year 2 students tried their hand at making butter while Year 5 and Year 6 students made ice cream!

On Monday, our Year 5 students were paired with Year 8 students at St. Margaret Mary’s College to participate in experiments in chromatography and the transfer of energy. Thanks to the teachers in the Science Department at St Margaret Mary’s the Year 5 girls experienced a taste of science in a secondary school setting - the lab!

Science promotes critical thinking - wondering, exploring, problem solving and sharing ideas all contribute to critical thinking. Children are naturally curious about science and engineering from an early age. Dinosaurs to Lego provide many opportunities for children to explore and develop a lifelong love of inquiry.

Parents can promote and support a love of Science through activities such as cooking, working in the garden, exercise, and doing chores around the house. You don’t have to have all of the answers, together you can find out and boost scientific thinking.

This week is also a great opportunity to acknowledge the many wonderful scientists who have made advances in medicine and technology, making our world a far better place.

God Bless,

Geraldine
