Congratulations to our past students who completed their high school education last week! In the past few weeks, I have attended three Awards’ Nights and it is impressive to see the achievements of our past students.
Usually I sit with other primary principals and it becomes a little competitive, as we claim past
students as they appear on stage to receive their award. I can only imagine how proud the parents and other family members feel when they hear the name of their son or daughter, who may not have been an ‘award winning’ student in their younger years. I know I often feel like standing and applauding the student!
Earlier this term I met a past parent, having taught two of their four children, now young adults, I inquired after them. The daughter who was a quiet achiever is still achieving, the son who endured some challenges at school (as did his teacher and parents) had struggled after school but with time, maturity and the continual love and support of family is ‘on par’ with his sister. Students need time and support to reach their potential, as adults, we know this may occur well after our school years are completed. Teachers can contribute significantly, however, it is the parents, family members and significant adults who provide, love, stability, support and patience who have the right to celebrate any accolades along the young person’s journey.
Well done and congratulations if your son or daughter has completed their high school education. I know some of you are relishing the thought of no more school fees, you have much to celebrate!
