Bill Nettle Rugby League Gala Day

Last Thursday prior to the school holidays, our Senior Rugby League Team participated in the Bill Nettle Rugby League Gala Day. In the pool games, Holy Spirit was far too strong, HSCS 20 defeated Cranbrook 0 and HSCS 24 defeated Belgian Gardens 4.

Our team progressed to the semi final against Weir SS who we had previously lost to in Interschool Competition. Our boys dominated with determined defence, HSCS 20 defeated Weir 8. As a team, an area we aimed to improve was our line speed in defence, which we achieved only letting in 3 tries all day.

Holy Spirit qualified for the grand final against Proserpine SS, who have been previous champions many times. In a close game, HSCS 8 defeated Proserpine 0, finishing undefeated and the Bill Nettle Champions for 2021. An exceptional team effort demonstrating our school motto: Strength in the Spirit.

We are extremely proud of the team for their outstanding performances and excellent behavior. It was a pleasure to accompany the boys and a very enjoyable day. All players (A-Tai, Andrew, Lucas, Callum, Zachary, Logan, Eli, Harry, Tyrese, Blaize, Bryce, Giann, Zayd, Harper, Elliot and Oliver) represented our school well in both sportsmanship and rugby league skills on the field. Thank you to our parents for supporting the team, once restrictions lifted for the finals.

Bill Nettle

Yours faithfully, and in sport
