APRE News

APRE 1

One of the Gospel stories told at this time is the story of the two disciples who met Jesus on the road to Emmaus after his death and Resurrection.  They were telling others what had happened when Jesus suddenly appeared among them.  Jesus reassured them telling them not to be afraid, and convinced them he was real and alive, despite his wounds, by eating a piece of fish.  Jesus told his disciples to go out and tell the world that he had died and risen to new life.  They were to be his witnesses to all that had happened.  As members of the Christian family we are called to follow Christ and be witness for him every day of our lives by living God’s way.

As we begin a new term, this week at Holy Spirit we value excellence.  Striving for excellence is trying to do your best.  At Holy Spirit, staff are always looking for ways to help students achieve excellence by doing their best to produce excellent work.  We pray that our students draw upon their many skills and show excellence where they can.

Last week, the Holy Spirit teaching staff attended the Encounter Gathering in Townsville with teachers from across the Diocese and other invited guests.  Over the two days we listened to presenters and participated in workshops.

ANZAC DAY:   On Sunday during the ANZAC Day ceremonies, we will remember

those who have served our nation during war, those who have died, those who have returned from war, those who are still in peacekeeping teams and those who have died while helping with humanitarian aid in war torn countries.  This Friday, 23rd of April, our school will participate in a whole school liturgy in the Hall which will include laying a wreath in our sacred space.

PROJECT COMPASSION:  During Lent, we were asked to help raise funds to send to CARITAS to support their mission work.  Well done to all who contributed to the Project Compassion boxes at home and at school.  This year our school raised just over $1650 for the ‘Be More’ Campaign.  A little bit goes a long way to help those in need!

St Joseph the Worker Retreat:  The Josephite Companions of Townsville are holding a retreat on Saturday 1st May at the House of Prayer between 10am and 4.30pm.  ‘What’s Working in 2021’ is a retreat that looks at our daily lives, work and play through a Christ-centred focus, with Saint Joseph the Worker as the foundation.  Cost is $65with restricted Numbers.  For more information contact Pauline McGuire on 4775 7688 or pmcguire@tsv.catholic.org.au

God bless.
