Today is St. Patrick's Day! St Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland is credited with bringing Christianity to Ireland. While there are many legends around St. Patrick, undeniably, the popularity of this saint and the influence of the Irish catholics in Australia is evident with many of our catholic schools being named after St. Patrick.

This Friday is recognised as the National Day of Action Against Bullying. While it is the day used to highlight the importance of taking action against bullying, it is important that every day is a day and opportunity to take action. What can we do to help children to take action?

Children imitate the behaviour of those around them. Many parents will recall how their child mimicked the words or actions used by a family member or close family friend. Mostly these recollections are endearing, occasionally some may have been embarrassing. As children grow older, these circles of influence broaden and begin to include others such as peers. Our words and actions can go a long way to prevent bullying. Modelling language and gestures which are not intimidating is a good place to start. As a school we look towards empowering our students to speak up - this is difficult for many children, but like other skills, it is important to speak with children about various scenarios and help them to practise the language necessary to take a stance against bullying.

We all want our school to be a safe and supportive environment where everyone feels respected. The theme of 'Take Action Together' is a great reminder that it is everyone's responsibility.

Bouquets to the many sponsors who have shown such generous support for the fete. We have thirty dodger prizes, including two $1000 cash prizes thanks to the generous support of i4architecture and Simon Bell Constructions. Dodgers are currently being printed and wil be distributed before the end of term.

A special Fete meeting will be held at 6.30 pm on Monday, 29 March in the hall. All are welcome, we would love to hear your ideas!

God bless,

Geraldine
