It's official! On Monday the Holy Spirit Playgroup was officially launched. The playgroup is an initiative of Holy Spirit parents, Majella Purcell and Alice Calleja.

At the end of  2019, these motivated mums approached me with the idea of playgroup. Last year the Holy Spirit Playgroup was short lived due to Covid-19, however, this year we are underway with great enthusiasm and assisted by Rebecca Rowan from Townsville Catholic Education and our Pastoral Chaplain, Kerry Donlan.

The Holy Spirit Playgroup meets in the OSHC building, entrance via Hatchett St. and all are welcome! It was wonderful to see happy toddlers and mums enjoying each other's company, a cuppa and plenty of activity.

Should you have a neighbour or grandparent caring for a toddler or preschooler please let them know about this community activity.

Hospitality and community - Strength in the Spirit in action!

Today is Ash Wednesday. Our Year 4 to Year 6 students gathered for mass in the Holy Spirit Church while the Prep to Year 3 students attended a liturgy (time of prayer) in the hall.  Ash Wednesday commences the season of Lent, the six weeks prior to Easter.

Pope Francis asks people to ‘experience Lent with love.’ “To experience Lent with love means caring for those who suffer or feel abandoned and fearful.” The Pope also encourages us to practise charity in Lent by caring for those affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

In our liturgy and mass today children and adults alike are reminded to think about how we can make the change in our lives to act with kindness so that others might come to know of God's love.

God bless,

Geraldine
