Principal's Corner

Have you heard the saying ‘The honeymoon is over?’ The beginning of the school year can be a little like that. As the routines become established, the excitement of the prospects of a new year can wane for students, teachers and parents alike.

We have all heard the stories of prep students who after a few days have decided they don’t need to go to school anymore and there is no surprise in knowing how that ended.

How we, the adults, model resilience is one of the most important features of helping children to build resilience. Admitting and owning our mistakes as well as discussing what we will do in the future are valuable lessons for students. It is equally important to allow children to make mistakes and see the consequences of their actions. Frequently we can rush in to solve the problem, we need to hit the pause button and allow children to problem solve - a great skill for life!

This year we are participating in The Resilience Project. In January all members of the staff attended training for this project. Our students will receive a workbook of lessons to use in the classroom, the cost of which has been covered by funds raised through events such as the Fete. For more information there will be a presentation for parents later this year.

Last week, parents attended CAFE (Community and Friends Engagement)  and Class and Community Connect (formerly Contact) meetings. The minimal opportunity for parents to meet in 2020 was highlighted at the CAFE meeting.  As a result, Year One parents and carers are invited to a ‘Meet and Greet’ followed by classroom activities this Friday, 12 February. We are looking forward to holding similar events for other year levels.

CAFE and CCCs are great ways to engage with members of the school community as well as learn about upcoming events in our school.

This week our School Board Members also met. Thank you to all who generously give time for the benefit of our students - that’s the Strength in the Spirit!

God bless,

Geraldine
