FROM THE APA

This year, Naplan Online continues at Holy Spirit Catholic School in May. The testing window is from May 11 -21 and involves Years 3 and 5 students. This week, the staff were involved in training  and the students have been slowly immersed in the LockDown Browser that they will use.
There are certain protocols that we must follow when it comes to these tests and we endeavour to inspire our students to do their best with these tests. They are not meant to cause stress and anxiety for staff and students ( and families) but to give a point in time account of what they can do 'on this day'. I am not sure how  your creative story writing is but I would find it hard to write a story in 45 minutes with short notice as do some of our students. The best we can do for our students is encourage them to ' give it a Spirit go'.  Linked HERE also is a guide for parents for this Naplan period to assist you at home.
If you would like to see the format of the test, please visit the Public Demonstration Site and click on the relevant year level. If you have any concerns or queries, please see your class teacher or myself.

This Friday, we as a school community join the " National Day of Action against Bullying". Throughout this week, students have been learning about the definition of bullying and what this looks like as well as what it is not. They also talked about the power of the bystander and how we can 'Stand Up, Stand Together''. We re-introduced the school Safe Persons and spoke about 5 people who the students feel comfortable talking to if they have a concern. This does tie in with our Resilience Project and being grateful for friends and family who, love and support us. Finally, we have spoken about "The Spirit Way".  We aim to be :
Safe
Persistent
Inclusive
Respectful
Inspiring and
Thankful
As adults, it is important we lead by example The Spirit Way to our students both at home and at school.
Have a fantastic week
Get in the Spirit,
Paul Martin
