- Our Mission Statement
There once was a man who set out to change the world. He found that he wasn’t making much progress, so he tried to change his country.
This was also too difficult, so he tried to change his neighbourhood. When he didn’t have much success there, he tried to change his family.
Even that was easier said than done, so finally he tried to change himself.
Then an interesting thing happened:
- When he changed himself, his family changed.
- When his family changed, his neighbourhood changed.
- When his neighbourhood changed, his country changed;
- And when his country changed, the world changed.
As a famous Chinese proverb reminds us:
“Before preparing to improve the world, first look around your homes three times”
Sometimes we are overcome with the enormity of the world's challenges, especially in our current climate, with issues such as financial hardship in the world, climate change, little interest in God, consumerism, war neighbourhood security etc.
How we, as adults, handle large issues influences our children in different ways at different stages of their lives. If we retreat to negativity, inaction, ‘the blame game’, then our children notice, absorb and take on our approach.
When we resolve to take part in changing things and do our “little bit”, we hand on an inheritance of changing our world.
As Christians, we believe in the “Strength in the Spirit” that Jesus promised us in our day to day lives: “I will not leave you orphans….I call you my friends”
God can make a difference through us: these are the treasures to model to our children.
That is the “Spirit Way”
Happy NAIDOC Week everyone.

Due to the need to care for my mother, I will need to extend my leave for the remainder of the school year.
2020 has presented a variety of challenges and it is a great opportunity to test our resilience and look beyond ourselves.
Kind regards,
Geraldine Egelton
World Teachers Day is a great opportunity to say thanks to all who take on this teacher role for our children. Australia will celebrate and thank the teaching profession on World Teachers’ Day - Friday 30th October.
Teachers (with support from parents and carers) have ensured education continues across the country this year, despite major challenges. It’s reinforced the significant role teachers play in the lives of children and students, their families and communities.
I would like to thank the whole staff at Holy Spirit for all the 'extras' they do in our school community. From before school, lunch times and after school / camps, our staff do a terrific job and it is time to be thankful.
Have a great week.

This Sunday, we celebrate the Solemnity of All Saints. In doing so, we remember not only those who have been proclaimed saints through the ages, but also our many brothers and sisters who, in a quiet and unassuming way, lived their Christian life in the fullness of faith and love. Surely among them are many of our relatives, friends and acquaintances. If there is one thing typical of the saints, it is that they are genuinely happy. They found the secret of authentic happiness, which lies deep within the soul and has its source in the love of God. That is why we call the saints blessed. The Beatitudes are their path, their goal towards the homeland. The Beatitudes are the way of life that the Lord teaches us, so that we can follow in his footsteps. The Beatitudes are the image of Christ and consequently of each Christian.
This week at Holy Spirit we value hospitality which is about opening one’s home and heart to those who need a place to belong. Hospitality is at the heart of many of the gospel stories. Being kind, generous and welcoming to our friends, family and those we know is easy. It takes courage to welcome or help the stranger by extending hospitality to those in need. Our school community responded to the needs of those less fortunate through our two recent fundraisers. We pray that our students continue to recognise the needs of others and be generous toward others, especially those who need help.
Monday, 2nd NOVEMBER is All Souls Day. This is a Catholic Day of Remembrance which we celebrate the day after All Saints Day. We remember and pray for friends and loved ones who have passed away. The Feast of All Souls reminds us of our obligation to live holy lives so that our souls too, may one day be received into heaven.
To support Catholic Missions in 2020, our school has participated in two days where children were encouraged to donate a gold coin. Just over $1300 was raised by our school which is a fantastic response by all families. Thank you to everyone who participated in these events.
God bless.

WORKING WITH CHILDREN - BLUE CARDS
The next stage of our building plans will commence shortly. The tenders have closed and a builder will be appointed in the near future. This is going to impact on our Hatchett Street area. When the builder has been appointed by TCEO, and we are aware of what changes will be occurring around the entrance on Hatchett Street, this will be relayed to our school community.
These are exciting times.
State Honours Ensemble Program (SHEP)
In partnership with schools across Queensland, the State Honours Ensemble Program (SHEP) connects the finest young musicians with a team of eminent international and national conductors in pursuit of musical excellence
SHEP gives students the opportunity to:
- Work in an intensive environment of musical excellence with their peers offering a unique opportunity to extend and develop their musical skills
- Work in either a Wind Orchestra, String Orchestra or Vocal Ensemble
- Work with a team of eminent conductors from Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University
- Represent their School (in full uniform) in a Grand Finale Concert on the Sunday of the program.
Congratulations to Emily Walker who was selected from Holy Spirit Catholic School to participate in this event. Emily was part of the Vocal Ensemble which was conducted by Tim Sherlock. Emily was chosen from a group of 50 students to perform one of two solos.
Emily says participating was a fun experience and she learnt tons of things.
