- Our Mission Statement
Have you seen the movie ‘A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood’? In this movie, an investigative journalist receives an assignment to profile Fred Rogers (Tom Hanks). The journalist approaches with skepticism, as he finds it hard to believe that anyone can have such a good nature.
Hanks’ character, Mr Rogers, filled with empathy and kindness eventually impacts on the journalist’s life. During the movie, Mr Rogers suggests to the journalist, who has a toxic relationship with a family member - ‘release that person from your anger’. Children do this far more readily than adults. Their interactions in the classroom and playground can turn quickly from the negative to the positive as they frequently demonstrate the ability to forgive.
Like Jesus, Mr Rogers is a great example of the affect we can have when we are prepared to show kindness and empathy and 'release others from our anger’.
Today we commence the season of Lent. The word Lent originates from a word meaning springtime. Lent is a season of the Church which is the forty days of preparation before Easter where we focus on trying to be a better person. It is also a great opportunity to ‘spring clean’ our attitudes that prevent us from being the best we can be.
God bless

The Parent Teacher Interviews are a great way to discuss how your child is settling into the classroom routines.
CAFE AGM
Next Monday, 2 March the Holy Spirit CAFE will hold the AGM at 6.30 pm in the staff room. All are welcome to attend.
This week our Holy Spirit value is forgiveness. Lent begins today – Ash Wednesday – and is a season to ask for forgiveness and search our heart to also show mercy to those who have hurt or offended us. God shares his mercy and forgiveness with us so that we may share it with others. Today, our students from Prep-2 attended an Ash Wednesday Liturgy and our Year 3-6 students Mass in the Church. During the Liturgy and Mass, the students were marked with ashes as a symbol of being sorry for the things we do wrong and how we can change to live the Gospel values as God wants us to.
Project Compassion is Caritas Australia's annual Lenten fundraising and awareness-raising appeal. Millions of Australians come together in solidarity with the world's poor to help end poverty, promote justice and uphold dignity.
Over the coming weeks, a feature story from the Caritas Australia website will be shared.
This year’s theme for Project Compassion is “Let’s Go Further, Together”. The first week’s feature story is with Shirley from the Philippines. Shirley, 36, is an indigenous Manide woman living in a remote province of the Philippines. She is a mother of four and the sole breadwinner of the family, as her husband is sick. But Shirley was struggling to support the whole family and keep her children in school. With Caritas Australia’s support, Shirley trained to become an indigenous health worker and a leader in her community. She has learned to supplement her income and is able to feed her family. The programme has also helped Shirley’s children with school fees, uniforms and supplies. For more information on Shirley, please visit https://lent.caritas.org.au/page/week-1
PROJECT COMPASSION BOXES: This week, each family will receive a Project Compassion box. We encourage our students to give up some of the foods they enjoy such as MacDonald’s, lollies, soft drink etc. or spend time doing jobs for family and placing the money saved into the boxes to help others in need. Boxes can be returned to the Office at the end of Lent. For more information about CARITAS and its work go to www.caritas.org.au
God Bless,

Lenten Program
The House of Prayer will be hosting a Lenten Program on Friday mornings and Monday evenings during Lent. The theme for this years program is “Light from Within” in recognition that every Christian journey forward is always also a journey within. The foundations of our growth in faith depend on the quality of our inner life and faith. The program commences on the 28th of February. A suggested donation of $10 to cover the program booklet is invited. For more information contact the House of Prayer 4728 9861 or houseofprayer@tsv.catholic.org.au

Enneagram Workshops
The House of Prayer are running workshops on Enneagram. The Enneagram is an accurate and ancient model of personality types for modern times. It offers deep insight describing nine patterns of behaviour that people readily recognise and the variations within these. For anyone searching for personal and spiritual growth it provides a valuable opportunity to explore these patterns and find deeper self-knowledge, understanding and insight.
