Today we celebrated the contribution of parents, grandparents and significant family members who contribute to the life of our school community. We are grateful to the many adults who generously serve our school on committees, in the classroom and in the tuck-shop.
At our Thank You Liturgy, Madison Harris presented Colin and Natalie Neucom with the annual Mappas Medallion on behalf of our CAFE (Community and Friends Engagement - formerly Parents and Friends'). The recipients are chosen by the Holy Spirit CAFE and recognised for their contribution to the school community.
There are many events such as the Year 6 Camp which takes place next week, where parents put the needs of their child and children in our school first. Parents are busy people and we are grateful to all who manage to juggle the commitments of family and work, yet still find the time to assist throughout the school year.
When parents enrol their children in our school, I frequently tell them that 'as a school, we are only as good as our families'. We can have the best facilities and personnel but it is the support of families which makes the difference.
God bless Colin and Natalie Neucom and all who help to build a positive school community, each and every contribution is appreciated!

CAFE News
Congratulations to Colin and Natalie Neucom, this year's recipinets of the Mappas Medallion.
A few weeks ago, MSP Photography took photos of a variety of our groups: Swimming team, athletics team, cross country team, Choirs for year 4, 5 and 6, band, strings, guitar, Challenge Games team and the Nalgaray group.
If you would like to purchase any of these photos, please collect an envelope from the office.
Our 2019 swimming carnival is coming up on the 29th November. This will see the Arnold Reds take on the Branagan Blues and the Stephen Whites. If you can assist at this carnival , please contact the office. We love it when parents are actively involved in the life of the school.
Next week, we see the Year 6 cohort travel to Lake Tinaroo for their camp. Thanks to the staff for volunteering to give up those cosy beds and time with their families to have a '3 night sleepover' with 105 students. Doesn't that sound inviting? We wish them safe travels.
Happy Days,
Paul
Congratulations Colin and Natalie Neucom
Natalie and Colin Neucom have been an integral part of the Holy Spirit Catholic School for many years. Natalie has held the role of convenor for the Cake Stall at the Holy Spirit Fete for several years. Each year, Natalie ably coordinates parents to provide a variety of treats for the stall. Her organisational skills ensure this is always a popular and successful stall.
Colin has been a member of the Holy Spirit Parents and Friends, now Community and Friends Engagement (CAFE) for many years. Colin has contributed significantly in taking on the roles of Vice President and President. Colin has contributed to many of the decisions related to improving our school playgrounds.
The reliability and commitment of Natalie and Colin Neucom over many years of service, make them worthy recipients of the Mappas Medallion. They are to be commended for their generosity, energy and dedication to our school community.
The life of Holy Spirit Catholic School is made richer by their outstanding contribution and service.
If your child is attending Year 6 camp and haven't yet paid, please ensure payment is received prior to departure.

Dear Parents and Carers
You may have seen media reports about industrial action taking place at some Catholic schools next week. This industrial action is linked to enterprise bargaining negotiations currently being undertaken with all Queensland Catholic schools.
A ballot to take this action was held on a school by school basis. Please be advised that there will be no action occurring at Holy Spirit and our school program will not be disrupted in any way.
Regards
Geraldine

Last Wednesday our 71 Mini Vinnie students were commissioned. Mary McAuliffe from St Vincent de Paul Society attended to congratulate the students on their efforts when helping others in the community. Mary told us that no matter how small the help is, be assured that it will make a difference in other people's lives. Mary expressed her thanks to the students and teachers who supported the School Sleep out and said the donations will be well received by the community who are still overcoming the difficulty in being affected by the floods earlier this year.
Mrs Una King also attended the assembly, representing the residents of Brooklea Retirement Village. Mrs King said "The support of the Mini Vinnie students to the residents every month has been wonderful". Our visits are greatly appreciated and the chats with afternoon tea brings a lot of joy to the residents. The Mini Vinnie’s of Holy Spirit Catholic School are making a difference. Well done students and congratulations on your commissioning.
We are open Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 8am at Tuckshop.
Your support with donations of spreads (not nut based) would be appreciated. Donations can be dropped off at Tuckshop.

National Prayer Campaign for Drought
The Catholic Bishops of Australia have announced a National Prayer Campaign for Drought to take place during November. People across the country are encouraged to pray for the gift of rain, for people affected by the drought and to provide practical support, where possible. The Bishops note that large parts of the country are directly affected by the drought, but the impact is national – and so should the response be national.
