This Sunday we celebrate Mother’s Day.
Mothers fulfil many roles. They are often nurses, counsellors, teachers, cooks, cleaners, and even taxi drivers! While they are human and may get annoyed at the untidy bedroom or towels on the floor, they love unconditionally.
Mothers and grandmothers in our school help in the tuck-shop, work in the classroom, at the Fete, at the Athletics Carnival, attend CCC meetings (Class and Community Contact), CAFE (Community and Friends Engagement) Finance meetings in addition to working and caring for a family.
In the Year 3 to Year 6 assembly today, hosted by 6D, the students acknowledged all mothers who nurture and care for us - especially birth mothers, adoptive mothers, aunts, grandmothers, teachers, neighbours and all women who have shared their faith with us.
May God bless you in all that you do for your family and our school community.
Happy Mother’s Day!

Next week, Holy Spirit will be participating in Naplan Online for the first time. The staff and students are excited by this and have been practising the online version across a number of weeks. This year, the tests must be completed in a certain order: Writing (Year 3 will be doing a paper version), Reading, Language Conventions and finally Numeracy.
Holy Spirit has set a timetable for tests and for make up times for these tests so as to allow students to progress through the test schedule. Students require headphones that they are comfortable with and a mouse is recommended but not essential.
If you or your child have any concerns about the tests, please contact your child's teacher for further assistance.
Well done to our athletes at the Inter-School Cross Country yesterday. There were many fantastic achievements but I do love the way our Holy Spirit athletes compete till the end. When I was working at the finish line, we still had 'thank you' when handing the certificates to our students. Amazing to the end! Thank you to Ms Todd for the organisation behind the scenes and to the staff that lined the course to keep an eye on all the athletes. Thanks finally to our parents for their continued support of all our athletes.
Happy Mother’s Day to all who take on a 'Mum' role in our school community. We wish you every joy and happiness on Sunday. A reminder that our Mother’s Day Stall is Thursday.
Athletics is next week and we will see the next battle between the Arnold Reds, the Stephen Whites and the Branagan Blues. A timetable will be available soon and if you can assist on the day, please contact the office.
Happy Days
Paul Martin
This week at Holy Spirit, we value gentleness. Gentleness is the virtue of doing good causing the least possible harm to others, therefore promoting the well-being of others. We can make everything we do a little act of love for God through the virtue of gentleness. If we love God, we love one another! This week, we pray our students be encouraged to put this into action by becoming aware of where help is needed, helping others and appreciating the help of others, and most of all being respectful of everyone.
This Sunday we celebrate Mother’s Day. The history of Mother's Day is centuries old and goes back to the times of ancient Greeks, who held festivities to honour Rhea, ‘the mother of the gods,’ by offering honey-cakes, flowers and drinks. The early Christians in the UK also celebrated the Mother's festival on the fourth Sunday of Lent to honour Mary, the mother of Christ. Later on it was expanded to include all mothers, and was named Mothering Sunday. Mother’s Day has evolved and developed over the years in different countries to the celebration it is today. On this day, we show our appreciation for the achievements and efforts of our mothers and or mother figures. I hope all our mums have a wonderful day surrounded by loved ones.
All loving God, we give you thanks and praise for all mothers.
We pray for young mothers, who give life and tend to the needs of their children; May they be blessed with patience and tenderness to care for their families and themselves with great joy.
We pray for our own mothers who have nurtured and cared for us;
May they continue to guide us in strong and gentle ways.
We remember mothers who are separated from their children because of war, poverty, or conflict;
May they feel the loving embrace of our God.
We pray for women who are not mothers but still love and shape us with motherly care and compassion.
We remember mothers, grandmothers, and great-grandmothers who are no longer with us but who live forever in our memory and nourish us with their love.
Amen.
God bless.

Have your say: Defence Families Australia invites families to share their thoughts
Each year the Defence Families of Australia Delegates collect feedback from all over the country, and represent the concerns of Defence families to key decision makers including the Chief of Defence Force and the Minister for Defence Personnel.
All of the Delegates are advocating for the changes that are most important to the families in their regions, and need your feedback to ensure your voice is heard.
This year, families in Northern Queensland have even more options to connect with their DFA delegate. You can speak with Chandell face to face at local events, over the phone or via email, or through the online feedback groups on the DFA Northern Queensland Facebook page- https://www.facebook.com/DFANorthern Queensland.
There is a feedback group for each of the NQ regions- Townsville, Cairns, Tully and Thursday Island & Weipa, so connect today and have your say on your experience as a Defence family.
We are open Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 8am at Tuckshop.
Your support with donations of spreads (not nut based) would be appreciated. Donations can be dropped off at Tuckshop.
Once again, one of the P and F fundraisers is the 2019/20 Entertainment Book. This year, no hard copies will be sent home. Families are asked to use the following link to purchase a digital or hard copy of the Book. Books can still be collected from the school after you have purchased them online. The P and F thank everyone in advance for supporting this fundraiser.
