Today we commenced the month of May with the Holy Spirit Award. This award recognises a student who is regularly demonstrating the gifts of the Holy Spirit. The seven gifts of the Spirit are: wisdom, knowledge, courage, understanding, reverence, self control, wonder and awe (wonder and awe are included as one gift).
The month of May will be a highlight for this term. Our CAFE (Community and Friends' Engagement) Group will hold the Mother's Day Stall, our Year 3 and Year 5 will participate in NAPLAN (National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy) Online, the Athletics Carnival will be held on Thursday 16 May, the official Opening and Blessing of our new learning spaces will take place on 22 May and the finale will be the fete on Friday 24 May!
May is certainly the month when we encourage parents to give just one hour of their time at the fete. We are currently looking for parents to take on the role of 'stall convenors', you might consider co-convening a stall with another parent. If you can assist please contact the school office or email the Fete Committee - we look forward to your support!
God bless
Geraldine
Welcome to week 2.
Last week, the students of Year 3 and 5 had a practice test for Naplan Online. Wow! It was awesome. The teachers were organised, the students were relaxed and had their headphones and a mouse and we aced the test. It was such a positive experience for those involved.
Can I ask parents to check with their child if they had headphones and a mouse that worked. We do like to be super organised in advance of the upcoming tests. A copy of the test schedule is included in this newsletter There are set days for the 4 tests and set times for make up tests. This year, the tests must be completed in order. Please see your child's class teacher or myself if you have any questions or concerns.
This week, we opened the Urban Warrior course for our Year 4, 5 and 6 students. It is brilliant! After waiting for so long and then getting through our safety brief, the students have had a ball.
" Best day ever" was one quote from a Year 4 student.
" On the first official day, I did not see a single sad face" Emily Year 5
Happy Days,
Paul Martin
This week at Holy Spirit, we value courage. Most often we associate courage with physical prowess or bravery. Courage can also be seen in the form of being honest, fair, not giving up, being a peacemaker. This type of courage often requires us to sometimes step out of our comfort zone and do something we might not usually do but know we must as it is the right thing. This week we encourage our students to think how they can be courageous and help others.
Last Thursday was ANZAC Day, a day to remember the many courageous men and women who have served our nation during war, those who have died, those who have returned from war, those who are still in peacekeeping teams and those who have died while helping with humanitarian aid in war torn countries. Our whole school gathered for the ANZAC Day Liturgy and we thank everyone who joined us. Thank you also to our students who participated in the ANZAC Parade representing our school.

MAY, THE MONTH OF MARY: By tradition, the Catholic Church dedicates each month of the year to a certain devotion. In May, it is the Blessed Virgin Mary. This devotion arose among Jesuits in Rome in the late 18th century and quickly spread throughout the Western Church. There are several Marian feast days in May in Honour of Mary including; Our Lady of Fatima, Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament (13th May), Feast of Mary Help of Christians (24th May) and Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary (31st May).
God bless

This week Mary McAuliffe from St. Vincent de Paul Society visited the Year 6 students who were interested in becoming a mini vinnie.
The work of St. Vincent de Paul Society Queensland is largely carried out by members of the community who voluntarily give their time, skills and experience to help those in need of a "hand up".
This year our year 6 students have shown great excitement to be part of this program.
Watch this space to see how our mini vinnies get involved with regular visits to Brooklea, the Vinnies Winter Appeal and School sleepout and with the Vinnies Christmas Appeal.
The Mini Vinnies program was established at the end of 2009, so we are very proud to have this program move into it's 10th year here at Holy Spirit Catholic School.
We are open Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 8am at Tuckshop.
Thank you to the Babbage and Reichstein families for representing Holy Spirit Catholic School at this very special ANZAC Day commemoration.
This term, there are a series of workshops to introduce the students of Mulkadee to what they will be studying during the week of Mulkadee.
